4 tips
ive always wanted something kinda along these lines on my truck and once several other "more important" projects are done, i might do it. i currently have just a glass pack instead of the factory muffler, but i was thinking about going with 2 Ys from each side, then X one pipe from each of those, then run back to 4 mufflers like a bullet or something like that, then out with 4 tips.
Looks nice!
Do you notice any discoloration of rear bumper / tailgate / etc after many miles?
Back in late '70s to early '80s I had a '67 Chevelle SS with 454 and tri-power and I made some nice tips, 2 1/2" singles into twin 2 1/2" 24" long tips. Hung them out back (4 tips total) in place of sigle tips (two total), looked great but I noyiced that after driving 50-100 miles and getting out, the rear bumper and trim showed discoloration. I'm sure it was also on the paint, both the blue and the black panel between the tail lights. I figured it was because of the reduced velocity of exhaust gases those last two feet in the doubled pipes.
I reverted back to the two sigle tips and no more discoloration.
Eventually I went back to stock exits just behind the wheels at a downard angle, no chrome.
Still have those big long dual tips in the basement though.

thats what im gonna do. i have different tips tho. they flare up. my 96 trans am was like the ones in this pic but they were smaller, either way i loved the look of them. my V6 firebird just had two pipes without tips. have the tips for my truck, gotta have a Y pipe made and then run/shrink the rest. dont want a different muffler. my stock one sounds fine. the aftermarket ones on the V6 just make them louder so you can CLEARLY tell its a V6 IMO. heard a 4.0L stang today with duals, sounded crappy. my stock system sounds fine. normal driving, it sounds almost like an 8. so just changing the exit of it.

And thanx for the comments from those of you who like the look
nope, trying them on the truck. i am going to get a Y pipe made, and i have the adaptors to shrink the pipe size after the Y. my pipes are 2.75" now and the tips wont fit on anything bigger than 2.375". i plan on shrinking the pipes down to 2" on each pipe, then putting the tips on. but the way i am making it, i will be able to start it up after the Y and see how different it sounds as i thro the adaptors on them. if it sounds like crap, then i will leave it as dual pipes with no tips for a bit. besides, they look better then the tip i have on there now. heck i spent $20 per tip so i might as well try them. i cant justify payin over $100 on tips when i dont have any mods except a CAI. my next thing i am trying for is a SCT tuner with custom tunes. hopefully have them in the summer. might be moving out to colorado springs soon, 50% chance, so i cant be spending on anything too high right now.
