Volant and S&B make nice kits. I think the S&B is cheaper but they are both enclosed filters which prevents them from getting hot engine air. I think you should order a tuner to be on the safe side about running lean (common on 04s-05s but just to be safe) and you will not see the true gains without custom tunes. Look into VMP, Troyer and PHP for some tuners (Xcal, Gryhon, ect)

Hope that helps

i had a fipk k&n kit on my old 2000 5.4 and didnt have any issues. but it is an open filter whuch sucks in mostly hot air. which goes for the same on airaid, afe, AEM and im sure others. its better to have it enclosed so it can get cooler air which is better. now there is a cheap way to go which offers similar results and there is no issue with running lean or needing a tuner and thats the DWV mod. do a search, theres lots of good info on it here. i done mine this weekend and installed a k&n filter.

heres some pics

I went with the Volant for the oil-less filter.

My thanks to you gents...

I'm thinking the Volant is the lead runner...

Will I really not feel the difference without a custom tuner? I hope to get one eventually but that will take time...

I cant speak personally for S&B, but I have heard good things. I have the Volant on my truck and have been very impressed. I have had K&N's in the past and believe this is a much better quality product and was easy to install. I"m not sure where Richmond is, but I got my Volant from 4 wheel parts in Plano, TX. They had it in stock and price match, so I was able to pick it up the same day.

S&B All the way. Extremely easy and detailed instructions on install, everything fits and lines up perfectly, easily removed if need be, and wakes it all up really well with the custom tuning.

I will be a bit disappointed to lose it later on this year when it comes time to supercharge mine. One of the more complete intake kits I've seen. And with the custom etching option, you can do whatever you want

My vote goes to the S&B kit because it's cheaper than the K&N and Volant, and outperforms the K&N.

A programmer will give you more power, torque and throttle response than a CAI can even dream.

S&B all the way! 20k miles of nothing but power! Plus the engraving on the box is sweet too. I have "PAY UP" written on it.
