I have a K&N cold air and a si/do flowmaster 40...
ive been thinking about having the cats gutted, will i get a good sound out of it and a little more power/mileage?
Will any significant problems come from doing this?
Thanks guys.

Which ones are you thinking about? IMO it will sounds like crap, but some people like it. Low end power will probably be lost. Oh and it is a federal crime to remove them. I think you get the idea of my feelings on it, lol.
Link # 2 has a summary of facts by Chester8420
Link # 3 discusses Legality and methods for gutting
Link # 4 gives information on O2 Sensor Locations Cat Options.
To Sum it up,
Look at your setup, determine whether or not removing / gutting / upgrading is right for you, hopefully come to the conclusion that Maggies High Flows are a great option and relatively inexpensive, Install, Enjoy, and Post the results for the others.

Gutting all of your cats will interupt the scavenging, hurting your performance, and running no cats would do the same for low end, but would be healthier for high rpm performance.
On your 2004, remove your rear cats, leave the fronts, excellent performance, still somewhat legal ( will not pass an emissions sniffer, but it will have two cats atleast ).
