Installing Headers sucks!!!

Just got some BBK shorties today and it took me like 2.5 hours just to get the passenger side on. I need to invest in some new tools though and that would've probably made it easier.

They look nice, ceramic coating will hopefully keep the underhood temperature down a little and I liked them on my 5.0 mustang.

Will do the drivers side tomorrow which should go much faster as it has better access on that side.

My Troyer E-Fans should arrive tomorrow so I know what I'm doin Saturday, E-Fans, Pulleys and Gatorback.

Clay bars arrive Monday for a full body detail, all this work is kicking my butt!!

I'm about to get some BBK's too, I've got a friend who is a mechanic though so it may be easier for me. He's got all the tools I'll ever need... how much horsepower do you gain from E-fans? and how much did you spend on yours?

Well....... I feel sorry for your mechanic friend, it's really not that bad though and even much easier once you pull out the fenderwell. Drivers side should be a breeze in comparison to the passenger side.

I ordered my fans off Troyer's website, they even give a small discount to F150 online members, anything helps!! Ask for the F150 member price when you call, they will ask for your member name.

As for HP, I am not sure what they are supposed to make something like 20 horses freeded up from getting rid of the mechanical fan and hopefully a little better MPG as well.

I put a set of MAC equal length shorties on my 4.2L. Both side were an absolute pain. At one point I had a bottle jack in the engine compartment to get an exhaust tube in the right spot. Too make life easy though, cut notches in the gaskets so you can loosely bolt the header up and then drop the gasket down into place and then tighten. On the 4.2L I had to cut each exhaust port off and do them individually but man did it save some time!

Good luck.

Well.......

I got both headers on and they went on and lined up pretty good.

One exception, the EGR tube does not match up, the bung near the collector on the new header on drivers side is in a slightly different location than it was on the stock manifold.

I am at a loss, I will call BBK tomorrow as it seems something was missing from the kit.

The EGR tube is stainless steel and is near impossible to bend with the tools I have.

As a last result I have bought some high temperature silicone tubing that is supposed to be rated at 350 degrees.

How hot are the gases going through the EGR tube about 6 inches away from the EGR itself.

Can I cut the EGR tube and use the silicone tubing to make the angles acceptable?

Hopefully BBK is aware of this issue and just left a part out of the kit, but there were no instructions or packing list so I am not sure if something is missing.

shorties aren't going to gain you anything in HP/TQ, just a change in sound. Long tubes will net some but not much.

I'm sure shorties do provide some power, not as much as LT's, but something. They wouldn't exist if all they provided was a slight tone difference.
