With hardly any stop and go, at 480 miles I have a hair under 1/4 tank left.

I've gotten over 500 miles on a tank before. It all depends on the driving conditions.

Just filled up today, 25.5 gallons. 459 miles on the trip. 18 MPG average, city and highway. Not too shabby.

BTW I've been using Shell 87 octane with nitrogen.

Now that is pretty good... Actually very good.

I have a trip coming up next week and will post when I get back... I should be putting a little over 700 miles on my truck. 18 MPG would make me very happy. Congrats!!!

i am glad others get to the almighty 500 miles a tank too cause i was starting to think i did the math wrong. yes it was mainly flat with a little bit of long grades going from bakersfield to vegas. i get no where near that now but i havent taken a road trip with teh set up i have now. i did get 390-400 a tank all highway with the 24's.

Last summer I got 20 MPG on the vacation trip down to the Texas coast, fully loaded bed and cab. These trucks cruise well in 2wd form.

For me the 2wd is perfect. I don't have any need to do offroad driving, with exception to beach roads.

Same here, except no beach roads for me. In Massachusetts, the winters are not too bad where I am so you don't need 4wd, but you still have to use your head and put some wieght in the bed

4wd is a requirement for me, 1' of snow in winter, occasional off road and field driving, but I still get excellent gas mileage

2wd's definitely get better mileage than 4wd's. Where I live 2wd's work perfectly fine but I have to have 4wd because I live in the woods during hunting season. I've normally got 2-4 miles of driving down muddy roads loaded with a hunting buddy, all of our gear, and two atv's just to get to camp and believe me 4wd is necessary.

Back to the topic...... it's been awhile since I checked my mileage but on my last trip I got around 17 1/2 mpg on the highway running the speed limit.

The newer 4x4's get a lot better fuel mileage than the older model's including the 4x2's. I had a '84 F-150 with a 302, 2 barrel carb and a C-6 that was lucky to see 14 mpg on the highway even when it was new. It had two tank's and I needed both of them to travel 350 to 400 miles. The truck I have now is a 4x4 and a lot heavier and get's 16 to 18 mpg hwy easily. I'm well satisfied with my truck's fuel mileage.

Bigdog... thanks for the comment on this. I have been following your suggestion and watching my Tac real close. I try to keep around 1800 and under 2000. What I have found this week is I am setting a little under 3/4 of a tank of gas where before I was almost setting at half. So I am very anxious to see how my mileage has improved.

Of course... I did have to go WOT through the first 3 gears getting on the freeway yesterday... just because I wanted to hear the sound of my new exhaust.
