Long Tube Header Install Help

When I replace my stock headers with a set of long tube after market headers will I have to move any parts of my exhaust around such as the cats? If anyone knows what the exact process is the advice would be helpful

Your going to need to get hi-flow cats because the stock cats wont last very long with the heat and force of longtubes. If you dont have any to swap to, then you could probably rig the stock ones to work since you have the two cat system.

dynatechs come with everything to install. some you will have to use shorter cats because of the longer tubes and collecters. it depends on the brand you go with. pick your headers and advice will follow.

Hate to bring this thread back to life but not many people have installed long tube headers on these trucks. I was wondering how difficult the install was? Besides the normal rusty stuck bolts n stuff.
I'm assuming you have to drop them in from the top but do I need a cherry picker or am I able to slip them in with regular tools?

I went in underneath, drivers side is cake, passenger side will give you some fits.

batn68, when you did yours. did you have to loosen the transmission and motor and everything like the directions say? removing the starter and stuff i know is going to have to be done. but that seemed like a little bit of overkill, i just wanna know what to expect. i'm going to do my install here in a few hours.

I put a set of pacesetter long tubes on my 2000 Harley F150 2wd. I removed the inner fender liners to get a clear shot. The only think I had to remove was the oil dipstick tube, and of course the original 4 cat setup. I installed both side headers from under the truck, I didn't have too much trouble. One important note, once you remove the original exhaust manifolds and studs, thread chase all of the holes - it makes starting the header bolts much easier and you won't cross thread. It is VERY easy to cross thread the header bolts because the heads are soft aluminum. All this work is very much worth it, you'll love the top end that long tubes give you

I think you lifted guys have an advantage over us 2wd guys. I did have to remove the starter and remove the pass. side motor mount so I could jack the engine up an inch, did not touch the tranny, not sure if the 4wd guys have to jack anything up. The thread chasing that mikeyss advises I would do that, I didn't and I did cross thread my last bolt, it was way easy to do. There will be some cussing, especially on that pass. side if u don't have some stubby wrenches, I know I sure did...

Hi,

I put a set of OBX's complete with y-pipe and resonators on a year ago on my 06 4x4, removed inner fenders, manifold studs, and jacked up pass side motor mount. I had no problem getting the pass header in without removing the starter, the PITA was getting the bottom bolts started, probably took me 3 hrs just to get the bolts in and tight.

i just came home from doing long tubes on my 04. i expected a headache, and it was. the starter did have to come off, motor jacked up, didn't touch the tranny though. if you know what your getting into it wasn't that bad. i had one huge set back though. when removing the dipstick, the bottom half broke off down in the motor. so had to drop the pan and get it out. along with a 45 dollar oil change...damn it. but the headers themselves....just expect it to be a pain, and you won't be disappointed. very worth the work.
