Y pipe H Pipe X Pipe etc...

What is the big difference between just a catback si/do or si/si, and something that has all of these expensive pipes... I was looking at some for 600$... Don't you pretty much get same exact thing with a cat-back?

Also.. (question for my buddy)
He has a 5.4 and wants a really good sound.. He doesn't want straight pipe or flowmaster b/c he calls it redneck truck sound (his truck has rims and is lowered)... Would a magnaflow be the best for what he is looking for?

yah... I figure something that everyone in the cars around you will hear it (Especially when you get on it) but not your whole neighborhood in the morning.. Clean performance exhaust sound..

The differences between si/so and si/do is si/so is an all single exhaust ( such as factory ) Y piped afte the cats and single 2.5" all the way back into 1 muffler and 1 tailpipe. Si/do is the same thing except its with dual tailpipes. The muffler will have dual outlets and the tailpipes exit either straight out the back, or side swept behind the wheels, or however its done customly. If you are at all familiar with true duals, thats what I'm running. its two exhausts, each manifold runs its own exhaust with either an H pipe or X pipe cross over, and has two mufflers. It sounds real good, thats the only real advantage with it, I wouldn't suggest true duals for your performance.

Heres a couple pictures of my exhaust if you are unfamiliar with true duals.

And a video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4ptCHa5m4U

My system is not a cat-back, I would highly suggest you buy the muffler of your choice, and tip(s) and go to a shop and have them bend and install your pipes and system. Much cheaper. Stick with Magnaflow, its your best bet. Stainless steel mufflers, and they're straight through so theres no restirction, and a sweet deep rumble.

Your friend will want a 14" body Magnaflow si/so or si/do whatever he prefers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJnXVvBbXT4 Just dont dump it.. It will sound much better with tailpipes and tips.

If your replacing them with hi-flow cats most likely yes. But finding a shop to cut cats out and replace them with pipe, chances are very limited because theres a fine of upwards $10,000 if a shop is caught doing so. You can do it yourself, I cut my big sound killing rears out and left the front pre-cats since my rears are not O2 monitored and kill alot of rumble. Took me and my buddy just about 3hrs with a sawzall, flanged piping, and clamps.

I believe they are. MIL eliminators may be neccessary. Crawl under your truck and look for yourself and see, if so, they should be in the middle of the cat. If they aren't in the cat and they are before the rear cats, then they are not monitored. If they are after the rear cats them they are, and you will need MIL eliminators to turn off the CEL.

Hes going to want a Borla. Wont sound anything like a flowmaster or straights, in fact it will give better performance due to a straight through design.

Borla also uses aircraft grade t-304 stainless steel, unlikes the 409 stainless that magnaflow uses. What does that mean? The Borla will never rust, not even any surface rust or turning brown. The magnaflow will.

You can get a nice Borla muffler for around 125 from summitracing.
