I get a consistent 19.8 mpg highway at 74 mph / 2k rpm.. this on a 5800 lb Supercrew with no Tornado device..

Perhaps I'd get that 30 mpg with the Tornado?

Yeah, if an actual tornado picked me up and blowed my *** to Kansas..

Yeah ok thats nice thought! NOT! Lets think of other things that WORK and dont get put into vehicles at the factory!

1. Bio-diesel, the only TRUE flex fuel. Look it up!
2. Theres a CARB. that make very very good gas mileage, geuss who owns the patent EXON... hmmm

Im sure theres WAY more. But those are TWO big ones that have to do with the subject!

Also have you taken or anyone else here taken apart EVERY vehicle's intake to see if something like this isnt installed at the factory, maybe not TORNADO but something similiar? AND I MEAN EVERY VEHICLE... NO you havent.

Just like every vehicle comes tuned from the plant for optimal hp/tq? Just like every vehicle that comes off the lot has aftermaket headers, exhaust, intake, underdrive pulleys, e-fans, etc that are all proven ways to increase hp / tq and some even mpg?

Just because there is a way for a vehicle to make more power, get more milage per tank, etc doesn't mean that the auto manuf. are going to do it.

Anywhoo, Josh - would you have time to do more tests and let us know over the period of what, a month at least (?) what your findings are? I'd be curious to see. Thanks

 

Come on, surely you realize that on base vehicles, which are what most of us purchase, Ford, GM, Dodge etc., have no way of knowing what kinda customer is gonna drive the thing. Anyone from an inexperienced 16 year old to a 90 year old farmer. So they find a middle ground on performance, minimize the "noise", and all of that hurts mileage.

That's why the factories DO make and sell vehicles with better performance.. Have you never heard of a Lightning, an SVT Cobra, SRT Ram.. no? They make those because they know the people who buy them WANT to be able to smoke the tires, break all manner of laws.

Didn't and don't mean to sound like an a-hole, but honestly, if that Tornado thing did what it claims it WOULD be installed in every vehicle, much as windshield wipers or catalytic converters are.

I've peered into the intakes of several different brands of cars and trucks, by no means all, but I've yet to see a little pinwheel thing embedded in any of 'em.

They make Lightening's, srt's, etc for MORE MONEY ! Yes, even these super vehicles can be modified to add MORE power. Why didn't the factory do that ?

You ever look at the tuning of our trucks ? Its pure ****. They give the trans. a ****ty shift rate, so our trannies crap out faster, which = more $$ for then when repair time comes. Dealers have changed from a cars sales oriented facility, to a repair and maitenance facility. Care sales just help there income.

Did you know, most new vehicles come with such a thin coat of paint, thats only rated to last 10 ****ing years ??? Why is that ? better mpg's ? Naa.... must be to help the consumer.... naa prices didn't ever go down cuz of it... hmm... maybe to MAKE more $$ ??

These vehicles are NOT made as effecient as posible.

Like someone asked before, why don't they all come with Long Tube headers ? They increase torque, making the engine work less and get more. Therefore increasing MPG's (if you can keep your foot off the gas) and no, LT headers doesn't have to be a sports car ! It could be a simple little 4 banger, it would just be more efficient.


If auto makers wanted efficiency, why would they even be making gas engines ? You know how effecient diesel is ? Make a diesel, from the factory, with the fuel line heaters and dual gas tanks, that way you could run it off PURE veggie oil, not that bio-diesel crap. You don't think people would buy these up in a heart beat ? You know how many Mercedes Diesels we convert EVERYDAY ?? Why don't the big auto makers jump in on this craze ? It would help us steer clear of this new evirmoental hazard know as the "Hybrid" ( horrible invention, with consequences the majoirty of the public has yet to realize.

I could go on and on, but i'm done. Apparently yall think the auto makers are looking out for us, just like big brother huh ? Don't be ignorant, they are looking after their wallet, and their bank account, thats it. They couldn't give two ****s less about YOU or ME.

Wow Tech, I always enjoy your posts here, never questioned your knowledge, but you completely missed the point I was trying to make.

That being that the factories DO produce higher performance versions of select vehicles, and of course they charge more for them... more in most cases than the consumer would spend making the same mods to a base vehicle on their own.

They do it because they know there's a limited market out there that will pay that premium for "from the factory" performance, along with the warranty that comes with it.

Honestly though, how many farmers out in the sticks, or their wives, want cold air intakes, long tube headers, straight through exhuasts, performance tuning, etc. on the truck or car they use for work and leisure every day? They want to hear that engine all the time? No, they do not.

Hey, I want all that, that's why I've put it all on.. They though are trying to sell to an "average" American. And they don't want to hear that "whoosh", the "roar", be thrown back in the seat.

I'd kill to be able to have an M5 or an AMG Mercedes.

The majority of people who buy BMW or Mercedes though don't care about what those performance shops can do.

All the manufactures de-tune what their base powertrains are capable of because that's what the mass consumer wants.

As a mechainic, have YOU ever seen one of these cheap little pinwheel devices installed from the factory in any vehicle you've worked on? And why not?

I'd be willing to bet that the instructions that come with the thang include words such as, "keep your rpm under 2,000 (for V8's), 2,500 (for V6) to see the best gains.." etc...

However, I DO honestly believe the auto makers of the world COULD makes better, more effecient vehicles. They could make the cab quiter to avoid the engine/exhaust noise. They could put effort into making things last. I mean, we have gone away from turning rotors. Why ? Not because rotors are thinner, but more because the metal they use now is the cheapest they can find (or maybe recycled too many times ?? i dunno). Its usually crap (generally speaking of course).

I see things everyday that make me say WTF ?? And then I relaize, it was the cheaper way to go, the easier way to go, etc etc etc.

I guess I should be a little more clear in saying, when I mention the LT headers, and better effeciency all around, I don't mean higher HP numbers. Rather I only mean higher MPG.

And no Tex, I have never seen one of these twirly bird contraptions..... YET ! haha ! You should see some of the things I have seen tho ! Those magnets on the fuel lines ? ya.... And the other day, workin on some ole Wagon (e-320) They had this wierd metal whistle type deal put on the front of the car. Its supposedly makes a high pitched noise, that only deer can hear. Its supposedly gets them out of the way. I laughed ! I have seen Deer getting shot at and still just stand there like a dumb POS. Luckily, he wasn't standing after the second shot !

I don't get your comparison of the deer whistle to shooting one. The bullet gets there faster than the sound. The noise from the whistle gets there before the vehicle. They work, I have them and I have never hit a deer! They work better than the Tornado!

 

Man, a whitsle aint movin a deer, thats all. There is just NO way. If anything, its gunna catch there attention and make em stand there to see whats comin.

I too have never hit a deer, in any vehicle. And NONE had the whistle !

Guys, I fully understand that Auto Manufacturers are in the business to make money. They aren't going to add additional parts that most people don't give hoot about.

However, if they could add a part, even if it costs them $500 to make and install, that increases fuel efficiency by even 25%, you don't think they'd do it so they could make their vehicle more appealing than the next guy's? Especially now that people are throwing a fit about gas prices.

If Ford offered it as an option, at say, $1,000 and it guaranteed an increase from MPGs of an F-150 from 14/18 to 18/23 wouldn't you get it?

Say I drive 14,000 miles a year, all city. That's 1,000 gallons of fuel at, say $4/gal or $4,000 per year in fuel costs. If this device actually works, and I get 18mpg in the city, I'd only burn through 777 gallons a year, or $3100, a savings of $900/year.

Now don't tell me that Ford is in bed with all the oil companies and wants us to use as much fuel as possible. They wouldn't sell any vehicles now that hybrids are being offered by more and more companies.
