I agree with you jackal.... i'd be happy with 25/30 on my 4.6 as well.

Would you guys say a custom tune by mike or whom ever would yield close to the same results as a dyno tune?

BTW how easy is everyones rusty manifolds coming off? I mean mine have been on for 9 years and they dont look pretty. Just curious so see how everyone made out with removal.

Dyno tune will outperform any non-dyno custom tune, PERIOD!

My tune was done on the street, with my tuner in the passenger seat with his laptop, tuning as I drive. Its the only way to do it when your working with a whole new setup.

Ok forgot to add live tuning as well, my bad, but to really get the best num's the dyno is needed. I have a pretty well calibrated but dyno, but an extra 3-5hp is not detectable by my cheeks.

Yep, especially for the part throttle and drivability stuff street tuning works great, unless you have a load bearing dyno and can spend extensive time on it. That normally isn't practical for numerous reasons. WOT is better on the street than a Dynojet too, just often isn't practical because of the speed required. A Dynojet drum only provides loading to the equivalent of something like a 2500lb vehicle, so the load is way off when dealing with 5000+ lb trucks. Not much trouble when n/a, gotta be accounted for with blowers & turbos....

i took mine off my 97 4.6L after 10 years...Michigan winters and salt No probs... the Nuts were so rusty that they locked and pulled the nut-stud out at the same time!!! i got lucky i guess didnt break any! after i finished with one side i noticed hey these are nuts on a stud holy crap! haha.

See Jbrew No wonder i dont feel a power loss with my 3" pipeing because the LT's gave it so much more TQ. However we will see when i get some more money to get my truck dyno tuned... Im going to have them put my shorty numbers in for a baseline to go VS my LT's Then i will say go at it for an hour guys and tune it up!! Then ill do all 3 on one sheet if they can do that... Shorty numbers LTs*No tune* LTs*tune*....just need to find that 400.00 dollars i left layin around.....

Yea, yea - you might have a little top end with that set up, but by the time you find it , I'll all ready be at the Finish Line - Looking for yuh

Shifty , look at the Dyno graphs 01Roush posted. Look @ his torque lines - compare them to yours. See how even and high those numbers are compared to yours ? Look at the rpms . He has torque across the graph in the lower rpms, that's how it should be. In your graph you make torque finally @ 4100 rpms. Your graph is BEFORE you added Long Tubes and 3" piping all the way out. When you go run it again with the mods you have now , it will be worse. Sure, you'll most likely have a higher MAX torque and HP , but it's going to take longer getting there because theres nothing behind the headers to take advantage of them.

Yea that, and there is no way to get your shift timing and pressure tuned on a dyno

The big torque diff. is mainly due to the longer stroke of Roush's 5.4 compared to shiftys' 4.6L as well.

No sh^t !! I thought he had a 4six - I looked around , it was a biatch to find a post with his motor size . It's not in his sig , or his info. - I finally found a post where it says he has a 5four.

I thought he had a 4six - no wonder his headers went on so easy and numbers are so good

My bad .

Woah , the torque curves were being compared, It seemed a good thing to add. The 5.4 makes alot more torque down low than its little brother. I was just putting out there that the CID makes a diff. in the ''Powerband". My bad:o

this was on a 4.6L right? will the gains be the same or better on a 5.4L? I'd be more than happy with his gains but if they were more I'd be stoked also
