1.) True, K&N does give you a dyno chart. My dad (who was skeptical about me getting my K&N at first) saw this and then kinda liked it.

2.) the 57-series is higher HP than the 77-series, but I guarantee you that the 77 will win a beauty contest. I've got enough plastic under my hood, time for some chrome.

3.) It does give the engine sound! Up close, my exhasut has a V8 sorta sound to it... also, when you jam the throttle, you can hear is suck in air, sounds soo cool. I am not sure about the MPG either, as I am having the same problem! Gas just went from $2.78 here to $3.25 in a week, so I filled up today ($90, ) and now I'm going to stay in the low-60's on the highway and start off slow and see what kind of mileage I'm getting. I was getting 16 (roughly) from doing a rough math calculation, but today I put in exactly 24 gallons (I was bone dry!) and I'm going to baby it and see what I'm getting. Its hard as hell to do this with no computer or anything. My dad's new '06 Toyota Solara has a little thingy on top of dash that has avg. speed, current economy, avg. economy, etc. I want one of those!

4.) I took K&N over the others because:

A.) We have a K&N filter in our airplane, we get about 1 gph (gallon per hour) [measurment of fuel burn in an airplane] more and get better climb speeds.

B.) The price ($211 for a K&N Series-77?) K&N wanted $350 from their website!

C.) Customer service. Any probs? Return. Also included everything custom made for my year, make and model. The installation book included pics of a 98 F-150 with a 4.2L. My bro bought a non-K&N CAI and it included 5 sentences and a bunch of cheap parts.

Hey gerald, I use the AF1 and haven't seen any noticeable increase in mpg. These intakes surely do not hurt the mpg but any increases are pretty small.. The main benefit from a cai is performance.. You'll notice if you search cai manufacturers sites that they don't really mention increased mpg.. more about hp..

The one mod I did that helped my mpg was a Borla cat-back exhuast.. I gained 1.8 mpg on the highway just from that.. I think any straight-through exhuast will do the same (Borla, Magnaflow, Roush, etc.)

Talking Cold Air Intakes

Hey people.... Cold Air Intakes Systems all pretty much do the same thing. Just think about what you want to accomplish here. COLD Air Induction....with as Big a Pipe that will fit under the Hood. One drawback...Its noisy, but to some that sound is "Way Cool". I took some time to choose my Cold Air System. I am Junior Member here....but let me tell you there is nothing Junior about me (58 YO)....Been working on my vehicles all my life since the dealers do more to break my vehicle than fix it. I am very finicky about how things are fixed.. I chose the Volant Cold Air Induction System with the Ram Air Add-on. In a previous posting someone mentioned a rattling....this is because the Power Steering Fluid Reservoir is too close to the Air Box. As the engine torques the reservoir brakets contacts the AirBox. You may need to enlarge the Bracket mounting holes to move it further awy from the AirBox. The other thing I did was add a Dynamat Hood Blanket on the hood, to reduce in cabin noise. I may even consider getting some more thinner dynamat sheets and wrap it around my airtube going to the Throttle body.... The Thermo Plastic air tubes are good as they do not allow heat to transfer to the air inside the tube...Plastic will vibrate making a awful noise.... Metal tubes will conduct heat from the engine to the intake air.. The Only caution worth mentioning......is that the Ram Air Addon tube will not work with all tire sizes recommend using 18" wheels or less. Big tires will rub up against the tube. I've got Yokohama Geolander 265/65-17 tires and I have about an inch clearance.

Can't wait to try out my Edge Evolution with my top speed set to 110mph. It's a far cry from driving the German Autobahn in my rental BMW doing 140 MPH. My dream would be to get my truck to qualify doing 150 at Bonneville. Anyone out there thats done that yet....we need to talk... Got Lotsa Ideas.
