Edge/AF1

So I'm thinking about getting a 3.5" AF1 but I have an Edge. I've heard all over here that with an Edge you can't adjust but I emailed edge and they sent me this.

"You can adjust the wide open throttle to help out a little in this case. With the way the programmer works thought it will take information off the mas air flow sensor and see whatever parameters and adjust the engine for that different air flow ratio. So basically with our chip it helps compensate for the difference in air flow from an after market intake automatically."

Do you think it'll work?

NO! Don't try it. The 3.5" AF1 will cause your truck to run lean. Just adjusting the Fuel at WOT will NOT compensate for the additional airflow at all other throttle positions. If you want to run the 3.5" AF1 get a properly written and dyno tested custom tune for it.

If it was a 3.25" AF1 would that make a difference?

X2,don't do it.I ran that on my 2000 5.4.I had the 3in AF1 with Edge and it ran scarry lean. The only way around it was increasing WOT fuel.As stated that only helps WOT and no other throttle positions.

x2 what everyone else said. Unless you drive WOT at ALL TIMES (and you don't), then you're gonna be lean. Only custom tunes for your specific set-up will correct this.

This is a pic of the tube. I'm not sure if you measure the outside diameter or the inside. Can you guys tell which size this is? Also the guy who had this on his truck said he never threw a code the week or so he had it on. Would the truck go lean immediately or would it take more than a week?

The guy sent me this:
"Not an easy task, but the inside diameter of the tube is definitely 3.25. I measured the end that goes to the filter at 3.25, and the end that goes into the intake manifold, has a sleeve insert for 6" or so, and it measures 3 1/8" or so."

So does this mean it's a 3" AF1 or a 3.25"AF1.

It appears to be a 3.25, but I'm not sure. I had the 3.25 and threw a lean code on my 2005 5.4, but after I cleared it, it never came back on. I would say try and it and see. Some don't throw a lean code with a 3.25. If it was a 3.50 I would definetely not try it. You would need a custom tune for the 3.5.
