Post flow 40 or flow 50, which is louder

Which is going to be louder? I want a little better than stock, because I drive 50 miles a day, I don't want it to drone in the cab

Cool

The 40's are louder than the 50's. Flowmaster also makes 40 and 50 series 'Deltaflow' mufflers that reduce the incab noise levels while still producing that Flowmaster sound out the tailpipe.

I have the 50 series deltaflow muffler exiting through a single 3" tailpipe. With the windows up I can hear a nice hum, with the windows down I hear Barry White crooning...

Rich- 40s are louder; their website has graphs of all their sound values. If you want "a little better than stock" than you might consider that this is the loudest muffler FM makes, and one of the loudest mufflers anyone makes. Personally I like loud and throaty; just FYI.

I've posted this before because I have used both. There is NO sound level difference on our trucks.Only a tone difference.50's are deeper in tone.40's have an awfle drone @65 mph.I started with the 50 and wanted louder at idle.Went to the 40.Absolutely NO sound level difference-ONLY tone.To prove this I talked my dad into installing my old 50 series. So,I have the 5.4L with the 40,and he has the 4.6L with a 50.Sitting side by side with both trucks idling-No difference. Accelerating his is deeper and cruising mine has awfle drone. I've used 40's on a Z28 and they were awesome.Beautiful,RAW sound. Just not the same on our trucks with the 4 converters. If you want deep-get the 50. If you want a slightly more open sound get the 40 with the Delta Technology.Believe me, the regular 40 sucks while driving and it is NOT louder.Drone is very annoying while on trips.

Thanks for the info guys, but I forgot to mention that I have a 96 F150 with the 302. I did however lease my 97, but lease was up and buying my first home was a must. I think that I am going to just buy a muffler and do it myself, I think I can bring it to midas or something and save a buck or so.....

Hey Max Mitchell.
You said you like the loud sound yourself. IS your Dynomax ultra-flow welded 3" cat-back a loud muffler. Louder maybe even than the flowmaster?

Cool

split- the Dynomax Ultra-flows are loud. The Dynomax tech guy told me that they were a few decibles quieter that reg FM 40s. Both are loud. This muffler is a straight through design (no baffles or chambers). It sounds like a Z-28 on steroids. Not bothersome at highway speeds, very deep at certain rpm/load, very pleasing if you want that kind of sound.
