Question exhaust ideas

This is my first post here. I want to get an aftermarket exhaust system, but I really don't have a clue about it. I have a '97 F-150 SuperCab. I don't want it to be loud. I just want to hear something and get a little better performance. Any ideas would be helpful. FlowMasters, GlassPaks, etc...

And, is this something I can do myself?

Thanks..

Billy

First of all, welcome to the site. Not that I don't want to answer your question, but this site has a great search feature. Just type in a key word and the forum you want to search and you'll get more information then you can possibly read. I spent many hours going through these before deciding on a system for myself. Everyone will have their own opinion on what is quiet and what is loud, but that's the fun of it all. I can only speak of what I have, and I decided on it from reading all the previous posts. I wanted it quiet, but louder then stock. I also wanted some performance gain. I think I got all of that with the Gibson Swept Side. You are supposed to be able to install yourself, but I was lazy and just had it done at a shop. I did start to do it myself, but decided to take it in. Good luck and how about setting up a signature, so we all can see what kinda rig ya got!

heres a second vote for the gibson swept side. if you have the 4.6 you might want to swap out the y-pipe at the same time.

you can check out gibsons page at

I have a Ravin Z-55 exaust. I love it, it is Midas' medium sounding exaust, not too loud, but has a sweet growl to it in high RPM's. Keep in mind that you will lose some torque with it installed.

You lost me there. I thought that the Gibson Swept Side was a cat-back system that was straight. What do you mean by "swap out the y-pipe."

Thanks,

Billy

Thumbs up

The gibson is a cat back but in addition to adding the exhaust billy is saying that you may want to replace the "Y" pipe at the same time. The factory Y is pretty restrictive so if you got an aftermarket and the exhaust you will probably notice a bigger difference. I have not done the Y pipe yet but I hear it is a pretty good bang for the buck. Search it out in this forum and you decide.

I have the gibson supertruck exhaust that comes out in front of the rr tire.At low rpm its kinda mellow, but when you gas on it then it comes alive.Everybody where i live have them straight out the back, i figured i wanted to be different.I also attempted to put mine on myself, but without a welder your **** out of luck.

Question

Hey.. does anyone know what the average price is for an exhaust setup straight out the back? I would like to just can the whole Y-pipe setup altogether if I could.

Do you find that your RR tire is discoloring? That's what happened to mine and they had to replace the exhaust to behind the RR. Under warranty of course. I'm kinda glad they did because it just got uglier and uglier. Just lettin ya know
