Post Adding the Warning Chime to after market lights / accessories.

This is just for reference. If you are adding aftermarket lights or other "switched" accessories, you can add the "Headlights-On" warning chime in case you leave the switch on when you leave your truck.

This should apply for all 2001 F-150s (I got it from the wiring diagrams):

Tap the WT/RD wire comming from the light switch connector, pin 11 and connect it to the switched side of your add-on lights or accessory. This is just a signal line to the Warning Chime module (the same line that sounds the chime if you leave your headlights on).

I did this to remind me to turn off my after market fog lights. If you have a long run to the switch you can fuse the line with a 1 amp in-line fuse or use wire gauge equal to that used on your add-on lights or accessory (they should be fused already!).

Exclamation

I forgot to mention an important detail in the last post:

You need to use a double pole switch for the accessory (one side for the Warning Chime signal line) or ...... your headlight switch will also power the accessory through the signal line and possibly blow the 15 Amp fuse! (DOH!). I'll scan the wiring diagram page(s) with the correct mod. using both the double pole switch and the diode.

F150......This is kool since I have a bad habit of leaving my fog lights on. Did you get a chance to scan the wiring diagrams yet? I am using the toggle switch that came with the lights. I mounted it under the radio to make it look like factory. Will this switch work in your set-up?

Just checking to see if F150Forever had the time to scan the wiring diagram yet.

My scanner is not cooperating, but this is what you need to do:

Run a wire from the switched side of your light switch (the side going to the aux. lights) to the White/Red wire on pin 11 of your trucks light switch with a 1N4004 or 1N4007 diode in line with it. You want to connect the cathode end (marked end) of the diode to WT/RD wire and the anode end of the diode (unmarked end) to the switched side of your aux. lights. See schematic. This works great and now the chime sounds if I leave either the fog lights or the headlights or both on.

Good luck. Remember to fuse any line that is not already fused at the appropriate rating. I have also attached a page from the wiring diagrams that shows the mod.

After leaving my aftermarket fogs on and draining my battery, I installed a relay that powered the fogs only when the parking ights are on, that way even if the switch is on the lights are out when the headlamps are turned off.

What kind of relay did you use? Do you have a diagram? I already have a switch on my foglights and was thinking of using F150forever's setup since I sometimes use just the foglights.

BlckF150Lariat,

If you want to use a relay with your existing fog light switch,
just use the relay to apply 12V to the WT/RD line on the headlight switch. Your existing switch will be used to activate the relay. Any general purpose automotive relay will work since the warning chime circuit current is real small (less than 1 Amp).
