False Door Ajar...WTF???

I was leaving work today and about .5 mile down the road, my door ajar light came on along with the little beep. Pulled over and tried shutting my door again. Nothing. Then tried passenger door. Nothing. Just said the hell with it and started driving again. Like ten minutes later, I heard the beep again and the light went out. Any suggestions???

HAPPENS ALL THE TIME TO FORDS!!!!!!!!!

Take some WD-40, and shoot in the key hole, SOAK THE ***** out of you door, the door switch in inside the door, near or on the handle, and they tend to stick form time to time, do this and you won't have to worry about it for a long, long time.!!!

Let me get this straight

I'm glad to know there's a "fix" -- let me get this straight, spray WD-40 in the keyhole because the switch is somewhere in the area of the outside handle?

Actually, it works better if you shoot it through the latch instead of the keyhole. You really shouldn't be spraying WD-40 or any other solvent or liquid lube into lock cylinders.

The door ajar switch is underneath the latch mechanism so the WD-40 drips down through the latch into the switch which cleans the crud out.

I had the same problem but I brought it in to Ford for Warranty. I tryed the WD-40 trick but it didn't work. The tech replaced the hinge and switch that closes when you shut the door. He said they had some problems with this and 6 months since no problems...

Thumbs up

Well its been a fews weeks now and no false door ajar!!! I took Dennis' advice but I didnt use WD-40. I sprayed throttle body cleaner into the latch. Hosed it down pretty good. We'll see how long it holds up. If I could only figure out how to solve my phantom wipe, I'd be a happy camper. Maybe I should try squirting some s*it into my wiper control...heh heh

Just a shot

I used WD equivalent, but just a shot. I decided I could always put more if I needed to, so some good aim with the red tube kept me from loading the door up with oil.

This seems to come on in humid weather or after they salt the roads -- that may be why contact cleaner works, too.

Actually, the Ford dealers use some kind of spray brake cleaner instead of WD-40. I always hesitate to suggest this because I have this fear that somebody will use a brake cleaner that isn't paint safe.
