Cruise control light question

When you press the cruise control "on" button, what happens?

Does the cruise light come on immediately or only when you actually press the set/accelerate button?

When I press the cruise on button, nothing happens!, no cruise light or anything, so that I often wonder if it is really on.

Then , when I press the set button, the cruise light illuminates.

I am not sure if this is how it should function.

Can anyone please clarify this for me?

thanks,

Baj

The cruise control is not activated until you press the SET button.
Your Owners Manual should explain the different functions of the CC, there are a few. You'll also find that if you hold the Accelerate button down, you increase your set speed.

Thanks AJ,

So what you are saying is that the cruise light will only illuminate when the CC is activated by pressing the set/accelerate button, right?

Yep......

I also believe that if you press Coast, it will disengage the CC and then when you press Resume and it goes back to the previous speed.

Another Question about C/C?

So what does it mean when I press the cruise on button and then set and no light comes on, even though the cruise is on and working properly? Is there a replacable light out? Or does this have to do with my dash ( the right hand side of the tach seems to be dim or not lite)?

mhussey,

If your CC light doen't come on then it's because it's either burnt out or you don't have one. My '97 F-150 doesn't have an indicator on the dash but later models do.

If one side of your tach is dim, there is probably an illumination light burned out but that is seperate from a CC indicator light.

Question

My '99 doesn't have an 'indicator light'.

(Or it's been burnt out since the truck was new)

My 99 doesn't have an indicator light either.

Is there a TSB on this. Can I get a new replacement truck with a replacement dash with an indicator light that I obviously payed for but never got.

AjRagno,

Thanks for the info, I think my dash does not have the indicator. Are the illumination lights replacable? I plan on putting in white face gauges, will the light be out on these or do the wfgauges have their on new illumination?

AjRagno, on my 97 when you push the cost button, you just let `er drift, and then when you let go of the button, it stays at the speed it slowed down to. I don't have an indicator light, either, and I have no idea if newer models do.

You got it right Pickup Man. When you press coast, the truck gets off the gas and slows (so long as we aren't going downhill) until you release the coast function. It then resets at the speed you have slowed to. Useful when going from say a 75 mph zone to a 65 mph zone.

The only two ways to disengage the cruise are to tap the brake or hit the cruise off button.

My '97 also does not have a cruise light, but I can't say i really need one either. Just another idiot light to look at...

Question

Ok, there is no light thru at least '99 so at least I can stop worrying about that.
My Lariat has every available option. Everything works except the (IFW) 'Impending Fart Audible Warning'. It pains me to report this but, it's never worked. According to the Owners manual, when the sensor detects an 'Impending Fart' in addition to the 'Audible Warning' chime, the power seat moves to an upward/forward position, the windows lower to a fully open position and the radio volume automatically increases 30%.

None of this works and passengers make comments like'
"Raoul, you're a pig!"

What am I going to do? I'm out of warranty.

You will also find that if you quickly depress and release the coast or set button, it will adjust the set speed by 1 mph down or up respectively. When going from 65mph to 55mph, just "click" the coast ten times and it will coast down 10mph and re-engage...

Hey Raoul,

You could always add a knock sensor to your seat. You can even wire it up to an indicator lamp and mount that on the passenger side dash along with some LED's indicating the severity of the knock. Sort of a (PFW) "Pending Fart Warning".

Here you'll find the instructions for building this little safety device http://www.california.com/~eagle/knock.html
