Hello Everyone. I bought a used 2005 F-150 4x4 about six months ago. About six weeks ago I started having issues with the truck starting, only when it was hot. I have since replaced the crank sensor, and the battery. Yesterday it reached a pinnacle. Usually if the turck was boosted it would start. Generally it would turn over, but just not start. Yesterday after getting it started and arriving at home, I turned the truck off. An hou later I went out to start it out of cusirosity. It was dead. The starter would not engage. I repeated the process at 10 pm when it was cooler. Same result. Totally dead. This morning I woke up, went out, turned the key, and the thing started like nothing was wrong. I am exhauseted with trying to figure this out. If anyone has had the same problem and has suggestions on how to resovle this, it would be much appreciated. Help!!!!!!

Duckie, I moved your thread, because like FordGuns, I think the electrical connections, either to your battery, or perhaps to the starter motor are poor.
If the engine does not want to start again, and the battery connections seem good, try pulling on the cables, which might improve a faulty connection at the starter. If it then starts, you've found your problem.

When it won't start, did you turn the key to the run position, press and hold the brake pedal, shift into Neutral and try starting it ?
Is Fuse #101 loose in the fuse socket ?
Did you check the voltage at the starter on the Yellow w/ light Blue stripe wire, when the key is in the start position ?
When you say it was "dead", is this you turn the key and nothing happens, but all the electrical items work as normal ?
Did you check the FPDM ( Fuel Pump Driver Module ) ?

What is the battery voltage when it has a crank - no start ?
Fuse #101 powers the starter relay that is non serviceable in the CJB ( aka Central junction Box, Cab fuse panel ). If it is getting hot, and loose it might not re-seat itself until it cools down enough ( big SWAG ).
Checking the Yellow w/ light Blue stripe wire will tell you if there is an issue with the starter motor relay in the CJB ( hope not ).
The dead action might or might not point to a few things, just want to verify what you are calling dead.

I went through your list. I thrn tried the 101 fuse. I wiggled it and the truck started. So I took the fuse out, bent the pins in, and cleaned the posts on the fuse block. It starts. Again, again and again............

Thank you for returning to the thread with the solution to your problem, the next member will thank you for your insight and information. Seriously they will, too many times threads have a bunch of suggestions and no resolutions.
Glad it was an easy fix.
Some of my SWAGs seem to do the trick, I always think they are BS when I type them.

Just an update. The 101 fuse worked for a few days. The vehicle is still not spitting out an error code. I cleaned all detachable connections last night and reseated all grounds. It worked great all of last night and started this morning. Thia fternoon, when it was hot, it started with the starter half-engaing again. I wiggled the connectors under the hood on the fire wall on the passanger side and it started. My mechanic does not really want to look at it because I do no think he knows what to do. The local dealerships are useless too. Any suggestions would be appreciated and helpful.

Sounds like you could have a faulty cable beyond the terminal, under the insulation.
The only way to check is to cut off the end, check the wire and solder on a new end with a torch.
might just want to get a new set of cables for the battery to the mega fuses on the firewall and to the starter.
