New Odometer - Crank but no start
Well, the cluster uses the transceiver (key ring loop) as an antenna to perform the read. The transponder is actually the RFID device in the "chipped" key.
It's interesting that the system is happy with the "last read" key info when the cluster is not installed. Hadn't heard about that condition before.
Good luck at the dealer!

So, you could "hot wire" the truck if you removed the cluster and the anti-theft system had not been activated?
So my use of the term transponder was not entirely wrong, just that I had it in the wrong place?
Must be my advancing years catching up to me!- Jack
I just came back from the Ford dealer in Greenville, SC. The experience was very positive, great customer service, quick service and they ended up billing me less that what they quoted me the day before, $130 instead of $175. The new cluster is newer and better so the truck looks great and finally shows the right miles so I can keep up with maintenance.
Thank you all again for your help!!!
