Thumbs down 98 Reg Cab 5.4L Gas Gauge & Air Bag Sensor Light

Hello Folks! Recently purchased a 98 Reg Cab 5.4 L V8. Running great. I have a couple of issues I need some advise on.

1. Gas Gauge shows Empty with light on. Gentlemen who I purchased from said its been like this a while and he fills up and uses the trip odometer to track fuel consumption. Where should I start before I pull the bed to get to the pump on the tank?

2. Checking fuses, I pulled #2 10amp to check it. It was fine. Reinstalled fuse and now my Air Bag sensor light has began blinking then stays on after about 2 min. Was not doing that before I checked #2 fuse.

For fuse #2, it might have blow when you put it back in, and that could be causing the LFC ( light flash code ) that you are getting.

Use a meter to check for power on both sides of the back of the fuse while installed ( hot at all times ) to a know good ground.

The fuel level, might want to try thumping the fuel tank with a rubber mallet ( not steel & not dead blow it can damage the tank ). Some times the fuel level sender can get gummed up if lower quality fuel is used, causing it to be held up in the down position. A thump might do the trick. This is just a SWAG on my part. I know the thump can loosen up a stuck fuel pump.

The other thing to check is that the connector to the fuel pump / fuel level sender is not gummed up with crap. Each has an individual ground, the fuel pump is black, the ground for the fuel level sender is Black w/ orange stripe wire ( will need to follow from the common connector on the fuel tank for the ground point, they are marked as 2 different ground points ).

I believe that blinking SRS light is just from the circuit losing power for that short time.

When I changed my HVAC bulbs after getting my truck, that set off the SRS light as well. My PAD light has never burned out on me, btw.

I hear ethanol gums up those gauge senders, too. Worth a look.

If the gas gauge problem gets solved and the air bag light is still on then just read the code. Should be two sets of numbers for instance three than three again would be code 33. Hope this helps you

LFC 25 is Passenger Airbag Deactivation switch fault.

you might try cycling the key in the switch located on the radio surround, and see if it goes out.

Are you referring to the air bag on and off key hole located just right of the stereo?

Yep that is the one, they also have a tendency to get sludge in them from the location above the drink holder. I have seen enough fail due to coke and various other drinks being spilled onto the switch causing it to go bad.

That will need to be cleared with an SRS-capable scan tool or you can just wait a few months for the correct number of cycles (126 or 256).

It was caused by an improper power removal sequence due to the fuse-pulling exercise.
