Remote Not Starting

I have a Viper remote starter fitted to my 05 F150. recently it has started being tempremental starting using the key fob remote. It does not seem to matter how near/far I am away from it all I get is the function light flashing & it beeps a few times. I have changed the battery & it makes no differance. The truck still locks/unlocks fine, its just the starter thats playing up. Its cold here at the moment so its good having it, any ideas as to whats going on?

what model by chance? I know its a two way from what you have said. look under the hood and check the hood pin switch. It sounds like it may be failing. Also check the safety on/off switch under the dash just to make sure its turned to on.

Try finding the hood pin switch under the hood of your truck. Check it out and make sure its working correctly, meaning its free and you can push it in and it releases back up when you let go. A quick way to check it out is unplug it from the pin itself, do not let it touch anything, remove everything including yourself from the engine bay, close the hood and try to remote start your truck. Unless you have a fuse blown, the only things that will keep the truck from attempting to start are the hood pin switch, the safety override switch, or the brake shutdown. Since it worked before, I would believe the brake shutdown would be working correctly.

Do the lights on the truck flash when you attempt to start the truck with the remote start? List all the details of what happens when you attempt to start the truck this way.

Did you check your owners manual on the beep code it is giving ?

I am taking a SWAG based upon "beeps a few times" where this might be normal, the factory remote start normally beeps 1 time when it is activated.

Also is the light flash normal ? These are just items from the Code Alarm / Ford manual

Sorry its a 5301, I was half asleep, I work early mornings. When I try to start it normally it beeps once u get a green light on the key fob, the engine then starts & the headlights & tails stay on. It will run then until it "times out" or u get into it & turn the key in the ignition. Recently when trying to start it after pressing the start button there is a pause of a few seconds then the "function" light appears (which is red) on the fob and it bleeps. Generally if I press the starter button a few times it eventually starts as normal. I have just sprayed the engine compartment with WD40, there was alot of ice under there. I did look for the hood pin switch but the only thing i could find was something attached to the inside of the hood that had some wires going to it. Its a small rectangular clear bit of plastic but I have no idea what it is. I could not find anything mounted on the bulkheads that was a switch. After spraying it, I used the remote & it started up on the second time I pushed the key fob. I have not noticed anything else unusual or different. Hope this helps.

If you read the owners manual, the error you are getting is due to pressing more than 1 button simultaneously in transmitter configuration mode ( page 12 ).

Sounds to me like the remote start is working correctly. Next time you try to start your truck, over emphasize the push on the button. What I tell my customers is to push, hold for about a second and then release when attempting to start their vehicle. I always program all R/S units to 2 on the activation input. Meaning you have to push the remote start button twice to get the vehicle to start. What is this set to on your unit?
