Question Remote Start wire

hey everyone I need help! I saw another post regarding the tach wire for the remote start on aftermarket alarms. My Question: Which wire (tach wire) do I look for on my 2000 F-150 so I can hook up the remote start??? Thanks in advance!

hey the kid, this is what I do for a living at a local Ford Dealership. First of all, if you can use the "no-tach" mode of the auto start, it is better. Otherwise, you will need to use one of the injector wires. I personally have used the passenger side front(closest to the radiator) injector wire color tan and have had no problem. Just make sure the connection is positive and that you don't cut the injector wire. As with any aftermarket install, when in doubt, ask. Good luck. By the way, what brand Auto start are you using?

Question

Newbie46, I am also installing a remote start keyless entry on my 98 with 5.4 triton. I noticed you suggest using the no tach mode. Where would I put the sensor wire since there are no plug wires.

Also are the door locks a negative trigger or positive trigger. The directions tell me to use 2 30 amp relays to wire the keyless entry if they are positive. Any help and suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

BuckMaster, What brand Remote Start are you using? Mine called for negative pulse for the door locks, but I really thought that it came from the remotes computer unit itself. As for the Tach Mode, I had to hook up to the white/pink wire for the truck to remain running. No Option. I needed the Tach wire to install an aftermarket remote start. The instructions indicated the tach wire as: For the 4.6 Triton, tach is PINK/WHITE at driver side coil, on 5.4 Triton it's PINK/WHITE at harness through firewall on drivers side. (that's where I found mine, on the top of three thick harness's and it was'nt easy to connect to) For the V10, use the negative side of any ot the 10 injectors on the top of the engine. ennis

The remote start unit is by commando alarms. On the door locks it can be wired straigh to the lock unlock wires if the are negative trigger, but a relay must be used if they are positive trigger. I was not sure if the truck is negative or not.

Thanks for the location of the tach sense wire.

Buckmaster, if you have factory keyless entry system, it would be (-) negative doorlocks. The wires are pink/yellow (-) lock and pink/green (-) unlock. a white square module high above the e-brake would confirm you have factory keyless. Otherwise, you would have to "five-wire" (meaning add two relays) to do this and it will be (+) positive. The wire colors are the same except it will be heavier gauge and would require you to cut them and "wire" in the relays in between. I know this instruction is vague but if you need more info, please let me know.

Thanks for the info. I will assume I need to buy 2 relays since my truck did not have the keyless entry option.

Use a snake of some sorts to fish the wires through the door and frame! It took me nearly an hour to get my wires through and that was just the two from the remote box! My relays were allready there. Of course you can put the relays under the dash and just send the 12 volt wire from the relays to the lock and unlock wires on the switch. ennis

OK, no I am confused. does it matter where I splice the relays in..or do I have to pull the door panel and splice them after the door switches.

hey guys...you can access the harness coming in from the driver's door high up the e-brake. there's enough slack to wire it all inside the vehicle. for constant power, you can use black/white from the same harness, this way, your relay is fused the same as the doorlocks.

Newbie46, I just read your reply. I am using a Prestige 750a alarm which requires a negative signal (I believe). I am understanding you correctly when you say the tan color wire (pass side nearest to Rad) is the signal wire? I need help cause this damn thing won't work!!

THANKS!!

OK, i have wired in the relaysusing the 5 wire rest at ground diagram. It keeps blowing the fuse. Here is how it is wired. Pin 87 on both relays to constant power. Pin 85 on unlock relay and pin 86 on lock relay to constant power. I cut the unlock wire and one end to pin 87A and one to pin 30. Same for the lock relay Pin 86 on unlock to my trigger wire on remote and Pin 85 on thelock relay to trigger wire.

I tapped into the black/white wire for power. Is this ok, should I cut that wire going to the door switch.

Any help appreciated. Right now I off to buy a pack of fuses.
