Help me find the right wires
Hi all,
I'm getting ready to install my DEI Valet 552T remote starter soon. I got a good deal on it - $35. I called the local DEI retailer, but they want over $100 to install it, so I'm going to do it myself. I've installed stereos and alarms before, so this shouldn't be too bad.
I've pretty much got all of the wires mapped out to where they need to be hooked up. There are just a few questions I have, and I'm hoping some of you out there can help me out:
1. I'd like to wire in the highbeams to the unit (to come on when I press button 2). As far as I can tell, the correct wire to tap into is the grey with orange stripe wire in the ignition switch wiring harness. Is this correct?
2. For the heater, I've got 2 conflicting stories. I've heard both of these wires are the ones that need to be hooked up: Gray with yellow stripe, and Red with black stripe. Which is right?
3. Tachometer Sense Wire - As far as I can tell, I should be able to tap into the White with Pink stripe wire at the PCM. Or should I be trying to run it to the coil somehow????
4. Finally, I can't figure out which wire I can use to re-arm the factory alarm. I'm guessing I can just tap into the door lock wire, because it would pulse the door locks, and re-arm the alarm. Is this correct or will I wreck something?
Any help is appreciated!

The answer to #3 is connect to the White W/ Pink behing the dash. I just installed a Tach 2 weeks ago works GREAT. Our trucks really don't have coils to speak of they have power packs almost like on an outboard for a boat.

Kelly, Let's see if I can help. Done this one to my truck too. First and most importantly, get yourself a test meter!
1. I hooked up to the parking lights. Brown wire at the light switch harness behind the switch. Headlights are the red/yellow wire, same place. Don't know the highbeam wire. (this is where the meter comes into play)
2. Those are Accessory and Accessory 2 wires, respectively, and both need to be hooked up.
3. Check out my response (near bottom) at www.f150online.com/f150board/Forum53/HTML/000260.html for more about the tach wire.
4. You need to add relays to your doorlocks. The remote only sends a pulse signal. Relays will provide the power to the doorlock switch and you need one for lock and one for unlock. I can't answer the alarm question.
Good luck, Dennis

Maybe the 2001 models are different, but my truck needed a module to disable the PATS system (Factory security). Its an RF transponder inside of the keys that sends a signal to the computer to allow ignition. The vehicle will turn over without the module, but the fuel pump and all that stuff won't turn on, so the truck will never start. Is this the factory security system that you are talking about? Or is it something else?

Hi JBirdZ,
Only the 1999 and newer F-150's have the PATS key thing.
The factory security system on my truck only goes off if the door is opened from the inside when armed (i.e. someone broke into the truck and is now getting out), or if they tamper with the ignition switch.
