Adding the airbag shut-off
I own a 2001 supercrew and it did not come with a manual passenger side air-bag turn off. I would like to be able to let my son ride in the front with me. Is it possible to add an after the fact turn off?
Thanks for the help.

Driving a 2001 SuperCrew as a loaner while mine is in the shop for accident repairs. It also does not have the airbag shut off and its a loaded to the gills XLT model built 4/01. Maybe they are not making them standard with the cut-off anymore??? I noticed the power adjustable pedals were listed as standard equipment on it.
SuperCrewser,
I hope someone can shed some light on this for you...

If you want a switch installed to turn off the airbags, you have to go to your dealer and get a special federal form to fill out. You'll have to give a valid reason why you want to shut it off.
Not 100% sure the exception applies to the passenger side airbag. I know it applies to the driver's side.

You can wire a switch in yourself (you have to be carefull when working with air bags). The manual shows the key-switch and two resistors in the circuit. They connect to the passenger restraint module on dedicated pins. I can try and cut and paste the wiring diagram if you want. Not sure about the legalities, but the air bag police probably won't be doing road block inspections.
I HIGHLY recommend not messing with the air bags. I would suggest your son ride in the bak seat until he's big enough to use a seatbelt. The supercrews are designed with the rear seat large enough to easily accomodate a child seat. This is why there is no shut-off switch.

I don't think adding the switch will be a legal issue because all the other style 150 have them... The issue I would worry about is the functionality of the switch... I strongly urge you to have this done by you local Ford dealership as this is one of if not the most important thigs in your life... Put your sons safety before money and have Ford do it... If you do it yourself and mess up how are you going to test if it works or not... If you set an airbag off it will cost you a new windshield, dash side window and maybe more... the will cost at least $1500 to fix... at least if Ford does it and blows your truck apart they will be responsible for repairing it... Just my opinon
Hope I am being helpful
