Post How to disable door chime, all other chimes work

With key in the ignition, the door chime irratates me to no end. Dealer would not modify because "the PATS anti theft may disable". Actually, I don't think his techs are smart enough to track it down.

15 minute fix, remove 3 phillips screws holding bottom of steering column cover. There is a black w/purple strip #14 wire kind of by itself. Cut and tape both ends.

Chimes still work when lights are left on.

P.S. I used a clamp on mini ammeter to track wire down, did not just cut in a Hit and Miss mode.

Does everything work? What about the anti-theft system?

It sounds to good to be true! I have been looking for a fix for this for ten years and four trucks.

I haven't, but I'm considering trying it when it warms up a bit and I can continue to work on the truck . Seriously, the worst that can happen is you coul disable something you didn't want to, in which case just solder the wire back together, put some shrink tubing over it, and its back to normal .

Hey Matt(bert),
I really like your guard/light set-up...why not get rid of that front plate mount? I did and it's much better looking.

It does sound logical! I picked up a really great electrical mod from a member here for my '97 (keep the fogs on on with the high beams.) Like mattbert said, if it doesn't work simply solder the wires back together. Let us know.

Does anyone know where the "other" chimes are located? Not just the wires but, whatever it is that makes the noise.
My friend with an 97 F-250LD had AM radio reception problems so he added some kind of noise silencer to the power wire for the radio. Now when he turns off the key the radio plays for a couple of minutes and the power windows still work even with the door opened and closed multiple times.
I think maybe he should have left things alone and listened to FM radio.

I have a 2001 Roush Expedition. Did this mod yesterday and it literally took 15 minutes. It did the trick and I haven't noticed any problems. The dealer told me the chime was integral to the GEM.

WORKED AWESOME!!! It took 2 minutes and I have been annoyed by that thing for 7 months. I used to have to rock the adjustable column up and donw to get it to stop...the noise is gone and I can take my time getting things out of the truck. It was amazing how quickly I got my things and closed the door just to not hear that annoying chime!

THANKS!!!
