i have an 01 scab with power side mirrors. recently we had an ice storm and the ice was about half inch thick on my mirrors. couldn't scrape it off very easily so i just left it there. took three days to melt off to where i could see out of them. searched the internet for heated mirrors, but it looks as if it was never a factory option on the 01's. now i am left with the option of fabrication and was wondering if anyone has attempted this before. if so could you please give me some direction??

okay, guess i'm goin it alone, will post what i come with and how i did it after i get finished with it.

 

please keep us (well at least me) updated on what happens. im very curious to know if it is possible to do, and how well it works. i no the wifes car could definetely use it, espicially after the winter weve had.

 

it has to be possible, might not be as effective as the factory optioned ones on other vehicles since Im guessing on those the heating element is embedded in the glass (could be totally wrong). If you can locate some sort of flat heating element that is 12v you should be able to use some sort of temperature resistant adhesive to attach it to the back of the mirror glass, that would work I think, just would take a bit longer to heat it up than the factory embedded type

this other one i don't have any idea how much the product runs, but it is like south_ms_sprcru said flat heatin element i think they even sell the glue to affix it to the mirror back. just have to figure out a relay setup. i have a feeling this will be the cheaper route.

I don't know if it would work but have you looked into newer model years ? I had a friend in Pa that installed the tellescopic F250 mirrors on his 4x4 E350 van. Not sure if it's possible but I would check into it, might be easier than the alternative.

 

Take a hair dryer and use the element out of that.... I did that to make a plexi bender....

 

yeah i didn't think of the hair dryer element, what would you wire it too as far as a relay? sorry it took so long for me to reply haven't been on the forums in a while.

i also ordered some leds from ebay am waiting on them to come in, plan on puttin some puddle lights in, gonna use a reflective cone so the light actually hits the ground, or at least lights the door up nicely. gonna tie it into the dome light so that when i unlock the truck with the remote they will come on giving some outside light besides just the cargo.
