warning alert stays on when door is open!!!
Without the key in the ignition, and the headlights are off, the warning sounder continues to go off once the driver door is open!! any ideas? I'm leaning toward ignition switch or some sort of relay.
Well the warning chime is part of the GEM module, if it was the relay all the lights and everything would be on, the chime works buy grounding a ckt that runs into the switch the wire is black with a pink tracer to the GEM. I would try tapping the switch assembly and so on if you don't want to replace the switch you can unplug the connector, im looking at a diagram and it appears to be the only wire in the connector, hope this helps
If this is happening without the key in the ignition switch, the tab got broken off ( happened on my 2001 ).
Here is the thread that I used to cure this, look for JMC's reply to thread, describing the removal process.

If you want another route, this is disconnecting the indicator that the door is open :

This is for those where the switch is operating correctly, but they want the door open with the key in.
Good luck

My dad has a 1997 f-150 and when the drivers door only is open without the key in the ignition, the chiming noise goes off until the door is closed. He has replaced the ignition tumber with a new key from Ford and that hasen't helped. Any suggestions???? Thanks

its realy easy
ok to stop the door chime when the key isn't in ,, you must follow these steps,,,trust me it worked on my 97' F150...
-turn key to on position (don't start it)
-under the steering column, there will be 2 holes next to each other.. the one without a screw in it,, use a flashlight and locate a little button looking plunger inside the hole, now use a small screwdriver and push in on the plunger.
- that will release the ignition cylinder ( the part the key goes in). now with it still in the on position, you can wiggle out the ignition cylinder, remember to keep pushing in on the plunger,
-once it is out, there will be a metal tab inside the hole the cylinder came out of. remove the tab(it should be connected to a wire) , and tuck it between the plastic column cover and the wheel housing. this will make it impossible for the door chime to work!
