Ding, Dong the Dinger's Dead!!

(Sorry for the Wizard of Oz reference)
Thanks to "projectSHO89" for idea.

For those of you that like to listen to your truck radio while you are working, cleaning, etc.:

1) Remove the inner panel of the driver's door (BTW, this was done on a 2001 SCrew)

2) Remove the factory "sound dampening"

3) Locate the wires coming from the door latch:

Looks like black/ yellow stripe wire from plug, but after unwrapping electrical tape it was found to be a black/ white stripe wire on outside of door:

If you cut this wire while the key is in the ignition and in ACC mode, the dinger and the interior lights will cut off.

4) I bought a toggle switch from Radio Shack and installed inside the lower pocket of the interior door panel:

5) The back of the switch has two blade connectors. I added additional wire to the cut black/ white striped wire and crimped on speaker connectors.

6) That's it!!! Once connected and installed, I am now able to flip the switch and turn off the irritating dinger (and interior lights - but how often do you clean your truck in the dark??) whenever I have the driver's door open and the key in the ACC position.

As a followup, for those of you that would need the interior lights with the switch turned off, all you have to do is open another door and they will come on.

For an easy, temporary fix, just stick a key or screwdriver or pen or etc in the door latch and click it shut. Stick it back in and pull the handle to release.

That is what I did until the mod, however, many times I found myself forgetting to undo the latch and tried to close the door with a nasty "thud". Decided to do the mod before I ended up messing up the door latch.

I was removing the door panels to install some new component speakers, so since they were off, I figured what the heck, install the switch.

I have what may seem like a dumb question: Why not just turn the key forward to the second click and turn the blower motor off to prolong the battery life? It'll ding three or four times, then beep once and turn off.
