Alarm suddenly possesed by demons.
Alarm suddenly possesed by demons.
have a 2004 FX4 with the factory remote start/security system in it. All of a sudden the alarm has started going off for no reason. It will run the 30 second cycle, reset and go off again 5-10 minutes later. It is parked level in my parking spot. No wind/bumps etc.
I have also noticed that I cannot get the security system to go into learn mode anymore either. All this started two days ago. I had to resort to snipping the wire to the siren horn.
Is there a module that goes bad or something on these things? Is someone else wireless whatever setting it off?
If any of the guys has any ideas please let me know. I am running out of ideas.
Thanks

What time of the day is it going off? Because when I got my truck the alarm was so sensitive, that in the morning when the sun comes up, the air inside the cab would still be cold and the air would warm up outside, causing a pressure change in the cab and the alarm would go off. That's what the dealer said anyways when I took it to them to turn the sensitivity down.
Nope. Not air pressure.
Nope. Not air pressure. It's happening mid-late afternoon and 10 minutes after I get out of it!!!!
I had the previously set the sensitivity way down.
I am begininning to believe that it is wireless interference.
I still can't figure out why it won't go into "learn" mode though.
Could a low battery be causing all of this?

The built in shock sensor my have an issue. I have had a few that no matter how far you set it down in sensitivity you can simply just tap the vehicle and it will set the alarm off. Only fix for this is warranty the unit.
Another thing that could be wrong is a defective door latch. I had a customer with Taurus that the driver's side rear latch would set the alarm off. The car would be just sitting there and the dome light would come on because it thought the door was opened.
Just throwing some stuff out there.

Any thoughts about why it won't go into "learn/program" mode?
I have followed the manual's instructions to the letter but no go. (This has worked previously.)
I have read proceedures on this site about also having the drivers window down and/or the dome light switch on to enter program mode.
Do you have a fool-proof, never-fail method for getting 2004s into learn mode?

Try to go into learn mode by turning the dome light by rolling the dimmer switch all the way up till it clicks. Then turn the key on and press and hold the program button for 10 to 15 seconds. You should get three horn honks. If that doesn't work try doing it with the dome light completely off by rolling the dimmer switch all the way down until it clicks. Maybe the door polarity setting is set to negative or something.
Could there be something wrong with the program button? A trick that I have done is take a razor blade and slice it into the two brown wires coming from the program button to complete a circuit between the two wires. See if that works.

OK KC, I have tried anything and everything to keep this alarm from going off. I am out of ideas. Is it possible to just disable the &^$%&'er and still keep the remote start functions etc.?

The fix for this problem is spraying the inside of the latch mechanism with WD40. Just use a can with a straw and spray inside the latch. I've ran across this problem several times over the past few years.
Everyone
I have tried every combination of solutions to this problem and still the problem was not solved. I tried the WD40 in the door latches as Tumba suggested above but that was not it. (I had the door latch issue with my '98 as well.) My solution eventually came to intercepting the horn relay output with a switch! It is the brown wire with a black stripe that comes out of position 21 on the main bank wire harness on the control module under the dash. I drilled the switch into the panel adjacent to the override/program button. If the switch is open you get no horn signal from the alarm system whatsoever. (I also cut the siren feed and left it cut.) The only down side is you get none of the feedback chirps either. (Lock/Unlock, Panic/Find, Alarm settings etc.) The good thing about the switch is that you can reenable this if you want to fool around with the alarm again.
Does anyone know how to do a complete factory reset on this? KC or Sscully?

Wow 2+ years and you still haven't figured this out? Ifyou cannot get it to go into learn mode, I'd bet that the something is fried. But after two years of not working, I suggest you just replace it already.
No Stovetop you missunderstand. The learn mode issue was long solved. (It would not see an electrical ground for some reason.) The issue has long been setting it so it won't go off! I could replace something if I knew what to replace. My gut feeling is that one (but which?) of the external sensors is pooched.
