You can buy a fob for it online pretty cheap and the programming procedure is easy. You can save some money. Turn the key from the off to the on position (just before start) 8 times and you will hear the locks cycle than hold the lock and unlock buttons together on the fob and the locks will cycle one more time and the fob is programmed. Since you bought the truck used it might not have fobs but can still have some programmed.

I agree, as I have purchased key fob's for my truck and the wifes car on ebay, and the programing info can be found, usally by the person on ebay that you buy the FOB from.

I may be wrong but to program the key you have to have 2 programmed to keys to do that right?

You may be right

I have heard that before and can't say for sure when that started (possibly with the newer "chiped" keys) but I'm pretty sure I did one for my 97 F150, and I haven't programed the one for my wife's Grand Prix yet, its just for backup.

So will this programming procedure work on an F250 Diesel 2004?
Also what about the key pad outside of the door, are those able to be programmed yourself or not? Thanks for any and all help ahead of time, this is my first post and am in a pickle, lol.
Thanks,
Christopher

My manual says that you can program a 5 digit number of your choice into the keypad on the door, but I think you need the old number or the factory code, which was supplied to me on a plastic card that looks like a credit card. It was in the front of the manual.
There are detailed instructions in my owners manual of my 04 on how to program a key FOB.
I bought my key FOB's from a guy on ebay and he sent me the programming instructions with the FOB's... And the info should be available on the web or certanily on one of these forums.
