Brightest Bulb out there.... Headlights

My boyfriend has an H1 Hummer and he just got IPF light bulbs replaced on his headlights... his low beams are brighter than my high beams ... Can i purchase these bulbs... is there a site that shows if these would fit my 07 truck..... I want something brighter than the Sylvania, because from what i here, the SilverStar are just a little step up from the stock lghts...

Any help is appreciated

Danielle

Interesting, I was just wondering pretty much the same thing. Anybody out there have any ideas? How about projector beam headlights? Anybody find someone who sells projectors for our trucks?--DIY

I've got Eurolite bulbs in mine. They are quite a bit brighter than stock replacements.

Just a word of caution here. "Brighter" bulbs generally means "higher wattage" bulbs. Higher wattage means more load on your electrical system. Your stock electrical system was designed to run OEM bulbs. When you start adding additional load to it, you're going to find out where your weak link(s) are. Many folks here (myself included) have added higher wattage stuff, but if you don't do it properly, you'll end up with fried components - specifically harnesses and switches. Some folks have even melted housings and lenses.

Another caution on brighter bulbs. "Brighter" does not always mean "more useful light on the road." Many times it just means "more light in the eyes of oncoming drivers." My advice? A well thought out system might give you more of what you're looking for than simply installing brighter bulbs.

If you do elect to use the higher wattage bulbs, take the advice and add an aftermarket wiring harness. For years, I struggled with replacing the 9007 harness over and over until I finally pony'd up and bought the aftermarket harness. No more fried wires.

And personally, I think that the silverstar bulbs are crap. They aren't worth a nickel more than the cheap regular bulbs IMO. I have tried just about all of them (hot white metal plasma, blue halogen, silverstar, higher wattage stuff and so on) and the silverstars were by far the biggest waste of money. I made the guy at Autozone take them back.

One thing that may differ for me is the style of headlight. Remember, I have a lincoln that has the superfly designed headlight with reflective mirrors and so forth. The silverstars did nothing for me, and my sisters 01 bmw looked the same with regular and silverstars. For $40, they just aren't worth it. For just about $50 you can get the harness needed for high watt bulbs and the high watt bulbs from summitracing and the bulbs have a full one year warranty with no questions asked replacement.

I don't understand the big problem with Silverstars. I've got 'em, and I get lighted (I almost said flashed, but you would take it the wrong way...) fairly often, and they provided a HUGE difference. Granted, my vehicle was used, and I have the feeling the owner ran the lights 24/7.

But, I will say that I have seen HID's and halos. Each has it's advantages, and each has it's pricetag. IMO, silverstars are the best bang for the buck, but if you've got the $$$ for a well thought out system, go for it. I can't stress to you enough, though, that a well thought out system, as 2stroked said, is crucial. I know many people who have modded their cars, and headlights always seem to cause their electrical problems.

If you'd have said flashed, I'd have gone and bought a set of 'em just to try that feature out. I constantly get that thought with my high wattage lights. I just expected more for the $40 than I got. From what I had read on here, I was thinking dam, those things must be like spotlights up there. I felt like I got more like candle light for the $

built54,
are the headlights you got actually called hyper white? I had a set called that in my ranger several years ago, and I loved them. They were the best aftermarket "brighter" bulb that I have seen/had. I would love to get another set for my L. I didnt see any listed on auto zone's website, or find any in any store. Did you just get yours? Does your local store still have them? Can you send me a pic of the package so I can see if they are the ones I am thinking of. Dont want to put you through any trouble, but I have actually been looking all over for hyper whites. Thanks.

I am a big fan of the Sylvania Silverstars, they are the only bulb I have ever tried that are stock wattage and give better light output. they are a true white light, not crappy blue. As a matter of fact I run them in my Motorcycle as well.

I was suprized to see the user above was dissapointed.

You call it crappy blue, but the light spectrum shows that blue light is clearer and better for night vision than white. Orange, white, blue, purple, and finally green are what can be seen. Purple and green are illegal for street use. They use the 3000K, 5000K, 6000K, 8000K, 10K and 12K scale, mostly when using HID style lights. Your silverstars come in around 4000K.

Considering that you're paying $40 for just bulbs, when you can pay $200 and get an HID conversion system, well, if you're gonna keep it and like to see then the choice is obviuos. I ordered an HID kit yesterday for the NAv
