Airbag Warning Light Issue
Airbag Warning Light Issue
Hey Folks,
My dashboard airbag warning light blinks a few times and then stays on every time I start in my 2000 model. I found another thread with this problem but this person said he got an tone, too. They concluded that the bulb on the switch to disable the passenger side bag was burned out which, replacement correct that problem.
I'm not getting a tone nor can I check if that bulb is burned out without removing the switch. Before I do that, does anyone have any ideas? Consulting both the owner's manual and Chilton's, they say when that light is on you need to go right away to your dealer. Surely there is something I can check before that step.
Also, a friend told me that he thought Ford had a lifetime warranty on airbag and seatbelt components. Any truth there?
Thanks,
VolFan

Go out and turn your truck on and watch the airbag light carefully - it will blink the same sequence of flashes, several times in a row.
Write it down and post the results here - there are several folks with the manuals to interpret the flash codes.
If I remember correctly, it will flash 5-3, long pause, then 5-3 again, long pause, 5-3 again and then light steady. Of course, the 5-3 is an example: yours might blink 4-2, etc.

A replacement from radio shack can be soldered in.
The reason you're not getting the 5 X 5 tone is that your airbag warning light still works.
Steve
same prob
i am getting the same code, replace the dash light for the airbsg and now it flashes the 2 - 7 code ..... how do you fix that?

See post # 5 above.

anyone got a complete shakedown of the airbag warning lights / chimes? i do not have a owners manual to refer to. i have had the light flash, (i will get the sequence next time i think about it) and i have heard a chime from the passenger side of the dash from what i could tell. it only does the chime RARELY when i shut the truck off w/o taking it out of the on position. ya know, rotate it real slow til the ignition cuts but the stereo is uninterrupted?
They're in the service manual, not the owner's manual (which can be downloaded from www.fleet.ford.com under Maintenance).
The basic entry to the service routine for SRS faults for the 97 F150 are as follows (LFC or DTC required):
² Passenger Air Bag Defeat (PAD) Switch
² Pinpoint Test A: LFC 12/52/DTC B1867 — Lost or Low Battery Voltage
² Pinpoint Test B: LFC 13/53/DTC B1913 — Air Bag Circuit Shorted to Ground
² Pinpoint Test C: LFC 14/54/DTC B1914 — Air Bag Sensor Circuit Shorted to Ground
² Pinpoint Test D: LFC 21/DTC B1921 — Air Bag Diagnostic Monitor Ground Circuit
² Pinpoint Test E: LFC 22/DTC B1922 — Safing Sensor Output Circuit Shorted to Batt
² Pinpoint Test F: LFC 32/DTC B1932 — Driver Side Air Bag Module Circuit High Resi
² Pinpoint Test G: LFC 33/DTC B1933 — Passenger Side Air Bag Module Circuit High R
² Pinpoint Test H: LFC 34/DTC B1934 — Driver Side Air Bag Module Circuit Low Resis
² Pinpoint Test J: LFC 35/DTC B1935 — Passenger Side Air Bag Module Circuit Low Re
² Pinpoint Test K: LFC 41/DTC B1941 — RH Air Bag Sensor Feed/Return Circuit Open
² Pinpoint Test L: LFC 42/DTC B1942 — LH Air Bag Sensor Feed/Return Circuit Open
² Pinpoint Test M: LFC 44/DTC B1944 — RH Air Bag Sensor Not Mounted to the Vehicle
² Pinpoint Test N: LFC 45/DTC B1945 — LH Air Bag Sensor Not Mounted to Vehicle Pro
² Pinpoint Test P: LFC 24/DTC B1342, B1924 — System Disarm Failure or Internal Dia
² Pinpoint Test Q: Module Communication Error
² Pinpoint Test R: DTC B1869 — Air Bag Indicator Inoperative
² Pinpoint Test S: Air Bag Indicator Lamp On at All Times — Air Bag Diagnostic Mon
² Pinpoint Test T: Rapid Continuous Flashing of the Air Bag Indicator (No DTC) — B
² Pinpoint Tests
This is valid for the 97 F150 and may or may not (probably) apply directly to newer years.

Pinpoint Test M: LFC 44/DTC B1944 — RH Air Bag Sensor Not Mounted to the Vehicle
... sounds like the one im getting... but it was wirenutted back up, color coded and everything... the male plug-in on mine broke, got no assistance from ford (i refuse to pay them atleast $60 to do something I can do).
what could i have possibly done wrong? it was broke and pulled apart and repaired with the battery connected. which i later learned to be a no-no. am i suppose to disc the battery now?

Here's what the servce manual has to say:
Pinpoint Test M: LFC 44/DTC B1944 — RH Air Bag Sensor Not Mounted to the Vehicle Properly or Ground Circuit Open
Normal Operation
Note:
Circuit 618 (P/LG) is riveted to the side of the RH air bag sensor case and the case of the sensor is grounded to the vehicle at its mounting point.
The air bag diagnostic monitor (14B056) measures the resistance between pin C208-21, circuit 618 (P/LG), and the reference ground at pin C209-18, circuit 649 (BK/O). If the air bag diagnostic monitor measures a difference of more than 3.0 ohms between the ground at pin C209-18, circuit 649 (BK/O), and the ground at pin C208-21, circuit 618 (P/LG), the air bag diagnostic monitor will store in memory the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) B1944 and flash lamp fault code (LFC) 44 on the air bag indicator. Should the difference in resistance between pin C209-18 and pin C208-21 be repaired or otherwise reduced to less than 3.0 ohms, the DTC B1944 will be stored in memory.
Possible Causes
A high resistance reading on pin C208-21, circuit 618 (P/LG), to ground can be caused by:
l A poor attachment of RH air bag sensor and bracket due to loose mounting, dirt, or corrosion at its mounting location.
l An open or damaged wire in circuit 618 (P/LG).
l An open wire or loose rivet inside RH air bag sensor and bracket.
l A poor reference ground at pins C208-10, circuit 650 (BK/LB), and C209-18, circuit 649 (BK/O), of the air bag diagnostic monitor.

Tried going to the fleet.ford.com site, but requires a username/password to get to the technical manuals, etc.. - trying to find out what the book says for a 2004 f150 XLT, flashing airbag light # 18 - can you provide that info? This started tonight, after I disconnected the light on the front for the passenger side airbag to install my sirius radio. I reconnected the light the wrong way the first time, then hooked it back up the right way... thought it would have fixed it, and that light no longer comes on, either.

For a new F-150, it's the same Passenger Airbag Deactivation switch lamp is out.
For a heritage, it's either
-Passenger Pretensioner Circuit Shorted to Battery or Ignition or
-Passenger Pretensioner Circuit Shorted to Ground
