Fog light question
Hey all,
Would like to install some driving lights on my '05 F150. I know the basics and have viewed some of the threads and diagrams supplied here. What i want to do is a little different and was hoping someone can help.
I'd like to have a 3 way switch in the cab. One position for off, one position for driving lights on, and one position for the driving lights to go on only when the high beams are activated. Can anyone help me with this?

Just wire it through your parking lights with a simple on/off switch.That way they will be on regardless of your high or low beam selection and you can have them on by themselves.With them wired through your parking lights you don't have to worry about forgetting to turn them off.Get ahold of SSCULLY to help with the wiring.He's a wiring genius!
What you are normally lookng at for the driving lamps is similar to this diagram :

The Switch power is key from the parking lamps or from the key in the run positon type of power source, so you know they are shut off ( parking lamps off or the key in the assy or off position ).
What you seem to be asking about is similar to this diagram for backup lamps :

Instead of the power for constant run, you would substitute this for the something like power from the parking lamps or the key in the run position.
- This would make the driving lamps turn on any time the switch is in this position.
Instead of power from reverse lamps, you would use power from the high beam circuit.
- This would turn the driving lamps on anytime the high beams are on, like in FTP mode, or actually turned on.
Just take the SPST switch that came with the driving lamp kit, and toss it in the drawer, and buy a SPDT switch, and wire it in this way, you will be all set. Ignore all the other markings on the SPDT switch diagram, I am just reusing a diagram for BU lamps, since it fits the application you are asking about.

Another option for the BU lamps, if you don't have the KC 55w BU lamps ( or similar 55w BU lamp kit ) already, Maxxima now makes a great copy of the Truck-Lite model 44 54 diode BU lamp, at 25% of the price.
On my '01 I was stuck with the Truck Lite LED BU lamps, at the time not too many made the 54 diode version BU lamp. Each head draws 1 amp, and they work great ( dad still has them on there ).
On my '06 I got the Maxxima BU led light from www.buytruckstuff.com and installed them using the same Trcuk lite 4" bracket ( had to buy them qty 5 at the time in '01 ). They are 60.00 each, these are the BU lamps that designed for single BU lamp on semi tractors, and 2 of them at the edge is great.
The Maxxima is slightly dimmer or maybe it is more so the LEDs are not grouped as well and they are a bit thicker when viewed from the side, but for saving 175.00 per light head, I am good with it.

The reason for the long post...
With these only being 1 AMP each light head, you can put them directly to the trailer tow reversing circuit ( center pin on the 7 pin adapter ) without any additional work needed.
I have them installed in the back, with a 20 AMP ( this is what I had around ) Carling SPDT ( Actually DPDT ) switch, one side to the parking lamps ( so I know they are off, rather then the 12+ lead ) for constant run, the other to the trailer tow reversing circuit. No additional work needed, the ones in the trailer, I used a hole saw to cut in, and direct gromet mounted them, looks factory on the Well-Cargo door.

If you are going with the BU lamp with the relay method, here is a thread with the wiring locations in the cab of the '05 F-150 that I posted for a BU camera application.
This would get you the required circuits in the cab of the truck vs having to go to the back, or hunt and peck method of finding them. Don't know if it is in the same place on the F-250.
Get me a year on the F-20 andI might be able to check on the locations for it in the EVTM, if I have that year.

If you want to run the BU lamps from a switch in the cab of the truck, the trailer tow reversing circuit is not even close to the same place as the F-150.
The easiest place I found the trailer tow reversng circuit, for use with a switch in the cab of the truck is under the hood on the LH inner fender, in a gray 12 pin connector, just under the brake resevior. It is not inside the cab of the truck that I can find like the F-150.
If you are going to put the BU lamps only in the back ( with or without a water proof switch ) then that is the center pin in the 7 pin trailer adapter, so no sweat.
