Remove the key.

Close the door.

Are you talking about with the key in the ign, or anytime the door is open ?

The reason I aks, is my '01 only did it with the key in the ign, with the door open, but after a front end hit, it would do it any time the door opened.

Turned out to be the part you remove in the tumbler, broke off, and was laying in the bottom of the channel, making contact all the time.

Here is the thread that JMC describes how to remove the chime indicator, which worked like a top for removing the tumbler for me, and then once I had it out, I saw the broken part in the bottom of the channel, pull that out, put the key back in, and all was good.

I like to listen to the radio with the door open sometimes. While working on the truck etc. Sometimes I drive the truck without a seatbelt, around the farm for example. I'd like to disable the chime, I dont need the truck to tell me to buckle up. You mentioned a thread, how about a link?

Check the owners manual, seems that I recall a procedure to turn it off.

That is a problem, the Thread below is only for the chime indicator when the key is in the IGN and in the off position. If you want to try to cut the wire to the GEM for the chime, here is one for your rang ebody style, should be the same as the '03.

For your MY range, all I did on my '01 is unplug the 2 wire connector to the seat belt. It will stop the seat belt chime, the same way the manual tells you to. This has no effect on the airbag or the seatbelt tensioner. This I know for a fact, I crash test dummy'd it out myself

Don't know why I did not paste it in before ?? just stupid I guess, I remember searching for it with keyword=chime and S/N=JMC.

Good luck with it, let us know if you need anything else. I don't have time to confirm for your MY if the post from JMC is the same 100%, but for the most part MY '99 to '03 are pretty much the same harness color codes.
