Smile Power Slider Switch Finally Installed...

Finally decided to install the switch permanently. Ended up going in the overhead console and using the switch that came with the window.

Overall, it was a pretty easy job. Ran the wiring up the windshield pillar and fished it under the headliner over to the console. Cut a hole for the switch with my trusty roto-tool. The console still has all of its original functionality and the back of the switch/wiring can't be seen when the "doors" are opened.

Thanks! It is still an ugly @ss switch. Just couldn't bear to part with $40+ bucks for a better looking one.

You've got better junkyards up there than we do around here. Couldn't find one so I checked at the dealer and they wanted over $60! Found one I liked at Autoloc.com, but was still about $40 shipped.

It would've worked from a Mystique or Contour. Surely you could find one somewhere!!! Slacker. LOL!

Talking Switch for the power rear slider

If anyone out there wants one of the switches like RockPick has for his power rear slider goto www.fordpartscheap.com. There only $11. I had the same switch as pw1981 has and it don't like the look of it. The oval switch is much nicer looking. Just a little FYI..

Just make sure that it's the backlit one if you're looking for a lighted switch.

I know there were a couple of parts floating around out there that were nearly identical however; weren't backlit.

Backlit switch

This should be the backlit switch. I do my Ford parts business through John at www.fordpartscheap.com and I explained the part is in a 98 Contour and gave him a photo so I'm sure its correct. I will find out in a couple days.

Hey Crapgame, thanks for the info. Let us know if it is in fact the lighted switch. I may order one just to see if it will fit in the hole I already have (probably not, though). That's the switch I originally wanted, just didn't want to pay the big price the dealer wanted.

Thanks 01 XLT Sport!

Rob Rob Rob...

I tried to talk you into using that switch before you installed yours! And, sorry, unless you can get really creative, I don't think that switch will fit the hole that needed to be cut for the switch that came with the CR kit. I obviously have the one switch... and I've seen the other. Sorry man...

One good thing, you might be able to find that plastic piece up there where you mounted your switch fairly cheap if you do want to change.
