Which Programers do you think are the best?

I've got a decision to make and would like to know your opinion ( and yes I know what they are like). I've been doing a lot of reading & searching just want to know what programmer you think is the best bang for your $ and why. I have a 1999 Ford F-150 XLT 4.6L. And Valentine's Day is rolling up pretty quick. Thanks for your input in advance.

A custom tuned SCT device. Second choice is a Diablo.

Hi.

Well, there is the Bullydog or Hypertech. They are so far ahead of the rest of the pack it's not even funny. That is, except for one - THE Top Dog, King Snake MooFoo of programming companies - JET. JET invented tuning - hear tell they even had a hand in inventing the internet.

JET makes all others seem like obsolete, ineffective toys by comparison. Oh, they've been unfairly poo-poo'd on some forums, but make no mistake - they WILL rise again like the Phoenix itself to reclaim their well-deserved title as the King of Programmers.

Look for the JET Phoenix Universal Fast-Flash Programmer ( J-PUFF ) to be released soon.

You'll also be able to purchase additional Jet-Paks to allow multiple vehicle programming for every vehicle you own .

Can't wait to dump this POS SCT device I have now, and get some REAL technology.

BTW - have you read the sticky yet?

OP, there is nothing to see here. Please erase your brain of all things mentioned above except for the url to the sticky. This is MGD's long way of asking you to use the search feature on this forum to find the answer to your question. This is the reason there are stickies in the forum. So that questions that are asked repeatedly can be answered all in one place. Happy reading!

MGD, if he goes out and buys a JET or a Hypertech, you are going to feel REAL bad. Or...maybe not.

In point of fact, it's responses like yours that have done that. In the time it took you to to enter that diatribe, you could have answered the OP's question.

Within that link is THE single best answer to the 'what's the Best Programmer' question:

Q: OK, so which one is best?

A: The one YOU buy!
Lastly - simply entering "best programmer" into Title Search yields 28 Threads of Opinions on the topic. So, the entreaty to use this feature is ALSO valid.

Your contribution to this thread = ZERO.

========= back on topic ==============

OP - since apparently it's beneath humourless ol' Silver to take the high road and answer yer question, allow me:

The available programmers vary greatly in features - it really IS up to you to decide what fits your need best.

Contact one or all of these folks to discuss yer needs - all are good:

www.troyerperformance.com
www.gopowerhungry.com
www.vmptuning.com
www.morepowertuning.com
www.5startuning.com

This, coupled with the info in that linked sticky, should help you make an informed decision that is right - for you.

In closing - I hope my attempt to inject a bit of levity in an otherwise droll day has not confused you. Good luck.

Guys, I have read the sticky and the posts to this thread, still I'm stuck with a decision to make, that I've known was mine to make. I guess I was just trying to make it easy on myself and just buy one. Instead, I'll just have to, like most you guys, buy one and if it doesn't work the way I like, save the money and buy another. Most of the forums I use are full of guys with opinions some good and some bad, but are info none the less. Most of the time I can tell which is and which isn't(Bad). Sometimes discussions bring out the better thing and the bad. I'm sorry my little question, was such a difficult one. I guess I should've read into the sticky a little more saved and the confusion. Thanks for the informative and the constructive information. Now the pissing contest is over!

I'd get an SCT and call it a day. Many of the best places for custom tuning use them. The bottom 3 of MGD's links use them and PowerHungryPerf has to completely re-do the Edge to make it "right." Troyer is ridiculous and takes 8 years to send you a tune. Any others besides an SCT or PHP edge isn't worth buying ultimately, unless you can get one for super cheap and try it out. Diablos are good but hard to find shops that send tunes on them for your/our truck(s). These things definitely aren't something you want to try out and then have to go out and buy another one, they're too expensive!

Hi Mr.Turtle;

No pissing contest here, sir. Ol' intolerant Silver the Sourpatch Troll just isn't worth my time. Some folks are just naturally mean, lol. Just ignore him - perhaps he'll Troll somewhere else.

Moving right along ....

How about making a list of all the attributes you want in a programmer, and then matching that against answers you receivee from online forums like this, and responses to your queries form the vendors you contact? This may help you approach this a bit more objectively.

At some point you WILL need to send those folks emails or call them directly to help you decide.

A brief start:

-Your Budget!
-Any planned future mods? Y/N ( this will foster additional discussion with yer tunin' shop)
-Canned or custom (or both)
-dash-mount with 'gauge' display Y/N
-datalogging Y/N
-free tune corrections Y/N
-number of tunes stored
-number of custom tunes included
-cost per additonal custom tune
-support backup camera video feed Y/N
-supports additional analog inputs (e.g. Wideband, MAP) Y/N
-warranty period
-unlock fee (just in case)
-tech support ( good/bad, hours open, etc )
-number of custom tuning dealers for the device in question
-sales, discounts
... etc, etc, - add more as you see fit

At the end of the day, WE cannot decide for you.

BTW - PHP DOES custom tune and support SCT's programmers. Not just Edge devices.

good luck!

MGD, that's an excellent checklist. I'll add it to the sticky when I get around to it (with credit to you, of course).

I'll add just one thing that was important to me:
- The knowledge and "openness" of the person you talk to when you are researching a source for a programmer or custom tuning.
You need to find someone who is willing to work WITH you and is interested in YOUR needs.

- Jack

Thanks, Jack.

I edited to add a couple more - (20/20 hindsight, lol)

Now that is more like it (from a troll lmao) My thought is who cares if the same question comes up on a forum months later...it is a forum and good info is given each time a question is asked from others with new experiences for example...not like the guys with new experiences are looking up old posts to share (my 2 cents). Sorry if I offended you MGD
