just orderd tunes!!
I had a Superchips tune/chip in my 5.4 a few years back that made a huge difference in HP and shifting, and I pulled a boat to the coast at least once a week. Now I'm trying to decide between tunes, and I appreciate your feedback on 5star. Please keep us updated... I'm right next to Superchips, and pretty close to VMP. I read a lot of good things on all of them, so I'm suprised at the results... but I read nothing but good things on Troyer, except the wait!
Same here. I may just go back to stock and wait for a tune from Troyer. I may as well be stock since it feels the same as the tune from 5 Star. The main thing I was wanting from my tune was acceleration from a dead stop. Seems like these trucks have a major delay in "go power" when first applying the gas. Someone mentioned being able to burn tires after getting a tuner, LOL. If I completely mash it, I'm not even close to spinning tires. I have a Gotts mod, upgraded air filter, dual exhaust....everything but a tune, and still no torque.

My first tune was from Troyer. The first Xcal II they sent me was bad and the second one came in and I was not impressed by any stretch. My superchip 1715 canned tune was far better. I am now waiting on force fed performance to fix their screw ups.

Maybe you need to run a 91 or 93 performance tune...... and a high octane fuel to go with it.
I have no idea if Troyer or VMP can do any better... if they can, wow. What I got is plenty good enough, plenty indeed.
Funny you have this experience.... I have the Xcal3 from 5star, and am currently running the 91 performance tune mike sent me. I have learned to no longer hit the skinny pedal to the right to hard, or I light up my 295/70/18 trail grapplers. I really don't need to burn off mud tires. I saw a MAJOR difference in the performance of my truck, especially after changing tire size. Absolutely night and day major difference. Before the tune, I remember a god awful delay from the time I punched the gas, till the moment the truck started moving, but not anymore. I am going to have a hard time going back to even the 87 performance tune, but I will when the snow hits, and I put the winter rubber back on.

Custom tunes.
Wonder why the "ugh!" feeling?
I don't make it a habit, but there have been times when I needed to leap out into traffic and go ... or stay at a stop forever it seemed ... and I find my '07 FX4 with 3.55s and LS and stock rubber spins pretty easily in those instances ... with just a sudden heavy throttle, even if not floored.
When it breaks loose, I let up somewhat to kill the spin as spinning is certainly not my intention ...
... and it's running with just an 87 octane perf "canned" tune.
Maybe you have another problem? Throttle motor or sensor at the pedal maybe?
Once had a '81 Ford with a 351 with 2 barrel variable venturie carb that accelerated harder from stop if you just quickly but steadily went to wide open, say over 2-3 seconds .... than if you just trounced on it from stop. The one way it actually accelerated "briskly" for the day, the trouncing suddenly made it a dog. The VV 2bbl carb had venturies that were controled by a PCM I believe (I could be mistaken on the mechanics of that "Rube Goldberg" setup ... it's been a long time ago and I only had that POS police car for 3 months and 11,000 miserable miles and swapped it with another trooper for his 1980 Plymouth Gran Fury) ..... and it limited how fast they would open it seemed.
My thoughts.. "ugh!"

06, I am quite interested in learning exactly how much difference the 2 companies can provide for you. This could be a direct side by side comparison tool, and one that I'm not sure anyone else had had the luxury of doing. I'm assuming that because the x3 is capable of storing 6 tunes that Troyer will not delete the 5star tunes. I'm curious if the difference is wild, mild, or negligible.
Yeah, I'll give you an update when the tune comes in. Troyer told me that it usually takes around 14 weeks, but since I'm just wanting one tune, 87 Performance, that is could be as little as 8, so hoping by Christmas time maybe. Tbear, the ugh feeling, was from the unnoticeable change I received from my tune.
