Winter/Snow & Programers
Winter/Snow & Programers
Hi To ALL
I've read alot about these programers(Gryphon CS Edge CS) but a few questions
1-Does the winter weather/snow affect how they Perform?
2-When in 4wheel drive which works best and how would a custom tune work?
3-Would the driving in snow be problematic with a programer in use?
I've owned Fords my whole life. Built a 4x4 pinto when I was Younger (and wilder). Never delt with a programer and interested in how they preform/work in Iowa weather.
Any info is helpful info

Note from Alaska
I do have one piece of info for you. Living in Alaska, I have learned that during the winter time, i.e. snow on the ground, I put my Tow tune on. No point what so ever in having a performance tune when you can't get any traction. Plus I feel safer having the transmission ready for a load while I am in 4x4.
I'm going to add something too. A "cold" PCM or ECM/TCM does not program well. I know the Edge/Gryphon manual says not to try changing programs in very cold weather (below 20 degrees). The same thing is true, I believe, for extremely hot environments (above 140 degrees).
So, in a cold climate, before you try to change your program, make sure the truck is thoroughly warmed up so that the engine compartment and PCM are warm too. The programmer itself should also be at normal operating temperatures.
Then, with the engine off, you can change your program.
Extremely cold or hot conditions CAN effect the display on an Edge/Gryphon, but that has no effect on the program that is loaded in the truck.
