Edge trouble

I have a 98 4.6 4x4 with an edge evo. My brother was driving it and some how he bumped it he claims and he reset to level two as he was driving. Now it won't start and all it says is please wait while edge initializes. I had him disconnect the battery for 15 mins plug it back in and start all over and it still says the same thing. It won't start even with it unplugged. I wasn't there but he said it started running terrible while it was reprogramming while driving.
I am not sure what to do now. Do I reflash the computer and leave edge unplugged? It was in level 2 and he tried to reboot level 2. All I know is that I had a good running truck before I lent it out and now it's dead.

Disconnect the Edge, get the truck towed to a dealer to get the computer reflashed.

Does it have to be a dealer? Or can it be a mechanic. He has all of the diagnostic tools I am not sure if he has the ford stock codes.

First, there is no way you can "bump" it and start it to reprogram. Seconly, if it was started to reprogram while running, there is your problem. You have to get a reflash from Ford. They are the only ones that can help you.

Yeah I know the bump but I am giving my brother the benefit of the doubt with the story. Born at night but not last night. It was while running. I have had the edge for 4 years with no problems. I just didn't know I needed to reflash. I don't understand why fully and would like to know. Can they just reflash a thing like that or did it fry the whole computer? I can't get anything to respond.

I would assume that the PCM, the truck computer is very confused right now. It had programs inside it that were functioning and all the sudden, those programs were interrupted and started getting changed as it was doing it's job, so, the only thing it could do is shut down and lock up. A reflash by a dealer should fix it.

You're a VERY kind brother. The dealer needs to reflash the PCM to restore the stock program.

But now, you've got another problem that's going to cost you: You'll have to get the Edge "unlocked" (returned to the stock state) so that you can use it again. I think the cost is $75.00.

Personally, I think you should get your Brother to pay for both procedures. He HAD to have pushed a lot of buttons, in a specific sequence, to get the programmer into the programming mode. He's blowing smoke at you.

Oh he is paying. I know he's guilty because he is acting like a dog that pooped on the carpet.

I assume that I would have to mail the computer to edge to unlock it?
Thanks for the replies btw.

I don't think so. I believe there is a software download they prepare, which you upload using Fusion.

Pooping in your truck would have been less expensive and a smaller hassle.

(Sorry - couldn't resist.)

Back to the thread...

I'm pretty sure Jack is right, but Edge should provide you with VERY specific instructions.
