Edge CTS: Questions

I just purchased the edge CTS for my truck. I hooked it up to my truck before hooking it up to my computer. I used the transmission mode today, the gas mileage is beautiful. I'm looking for preformance tho, I have a few questions....

Does the towing mode increase any kind of preformance from 0-60?
For the 93 Octane tune, how long can you keep it on?
If I have a Roush Cold Air intake, what can I do about it?
I'm low on money so paying for anything is out of the question.

Any help would be appreciated for a new owner of an Edge CTS. Thanks guys!

With a 2005 truck, the intake could mean you are running lean. I think I'd either ditch the intake in favor of the Gotts Mod, or get custom tunes.

All you can do is try the Level 2 tune and see what happens performance wise. Different people get different results. I'd expect an improvement, but each truck is an "individual".

The 93 Octane tune can be used as long as you fill with 93 octane gas. But, don't tow loads over 2500# on that tune and, it could aggravate the "lean" condition you might have with the intake.

Thanks for the help, my computer in my truck already recalibrated with the new intake. It ran lean for a couple days and then fixed itself by learning the new intake. Luckily the air flow hasn't changed that I know of and hasn't run lean yet (Again).. Once I get a little money I may take it to a local speed shop for a custom tune. (Have them do it for me since I don't know sh**) But I spent 375 dollars on the intake and don't plan to get rid of it any time soon.. Other than that should I change the shift points at all or leave them like they are?

Not sure about the "learning" part. It may be fine in closed loop, where the O2 sensors can tell the PCM to adjust the fuel delivery, but in open loop it's working off tables that deliver fuel according to the observed intake airflow and if that CAI modified the MAF sensor environment, the sensed airflow value is incorrect.

Unless, Edge has issued a firmware update that I'm unaware of, there is still no way to adjust the WOT shift points on the CS/CTS platforms. However, I recently learned (from two posts in another forum) that the brilliant engineers at Edge may have set the default rev limit at 4200 RPM, which would almost make your truck undrivable in a high power demand situation. You might check that value and set it to 5400-5500 if necessary.

Just making sure, you can get custom tunes on the Edge products, right?

Yes - from http://www.powerhungryperformance.com/.

They are the ONLY people who can custom tune an Edge. Bill Cohron at PHP is a consultant for Edge and was heavily involved in their product development.

Don't know if I qualify for either of those, but thanks for the feedback. We just try to help when we can.

Thanks for all of the help, sorry for commenting so late but do I just send in my CTS for custom tunes to PHP and they will give me custom tunes? Also do I need to plug in my CTS into my computer and download the software CD to my computer? All the help would be greatly appreciated.

The CTS should have come with a CD that contains "Fusion", a PC app that you use to update the firmware and calibrations on the CTS. Basically, you install Fusion, then establish a FREE Fusion account with Edge. Once you have Fusion installed, you can plug your CTS into the PC using a USB cable and updates will occur automatically. Remember though, the CTS (and your truck) MUST be set back to the "Stock" (Level 0) tune BEFORE you plug the programmer into your PC.

If you don't have the CD, you can download Fusion from Edge's website.

With a CTS, you simply go to PHP's website and fill out the tune order form to get custom tunes. You DON'T send your CTS to them.

When I looked and saw 4-6 weeks I said FML. No way that's happening. I'm not sending it in any time soon.

Hey guys! I tried running the level 3 tune with a quarter tank of 93 octane and when I got up to about 50-60 miles an hour it felt like my transmission slipped or didn't catch. It jerked about 3 times and didn't hook up? I was quite scared so I stopped and put it back into stock mode. I'm terrified if I keep trying I may have to buy a new transmission. What could be the problem??? Please help, I only fear the worst.

That's one reason we recommend custom tunes.
