It makes sense what you are saying.
What Doesn't make sense to me is that on level 1 trans only, it runs fine with no custom settings.
If I use the custom settings on level 1, and change tire size, gear ratio, shift points, and shift firmness, it runs rich. Start it up, it stalls right back out again.

Does the exact same thing on level 2 and 3.

According to Edge, it shouldn't do that, they don't know why it is, but it shouldn't be.

When I told them about my current gear display, and my load % display, reading different readouts depending on which corner I have them displayed in, I also got a "that's strange".

I guess I'm just looking for a definate answer before I spend money on a sensor I don't need, or send back a unit that isn't defective.

Edge tells me it sounds like a bug in the programming, but they can't find anything.

Bought a new TPS and installed it. No change.

OK, skizriz, I probably missed these details in your earlier posts. My brain cells are rapidly fading, and I'm never surprised at this anymore. (Either that, or I'm maxed out on brain RAM and my brain does a core dump every so often to free up space.)

I would expect it to run properly on Level 1 with no custom settings, based on what you are saying. Custom settings though, would react with less than optimal systems in your truck. And, I think you are saying that Level 2 and 3 without custom settings also give the same problems? If that's so, I'm standing by my previous statement. If the problems only arise with custom settings, please read on.

You may not have been talking to a "Ford Expert" at Edge. The guys you talk to are not the engineers, in any case.

There is ONE custom setting that has been known to cause problems - I may have mentioned it earlier, but I'm too lazy to go back and look. Several people have had weird problems crop up in custom levels when they changed the WOT fuel (and I think the problems are similar to yours). In my opinion, this IS a bug in Edge's programming and I'd simply leave it alone. What this means is, program to a new Level but leave the custom options alone. Then, reprogram to the same level and use custom options to set your Tire Size and Gear Ratio. If that works, I THINK you'll have a new "previous settings" file that will have the "canned" WOT fuel setting. You should be able to work from there, changing the shift points, max RPM and so on. I'd change these things one at a time and test between each change!

Am I making sense at all?

And sorry if I'm no help - I'm really trying.

Edit: You slipped in the update on the TPS before I managed to get this post in, sorry!

You're doing a fine job. Not confusing me TOO much.

Level 1-2-3 with NO custom settings runs fine.

Level 1-2-3- with custom settings runs like crap.

I haven't messed with the WOT or timing, only max RPM, shift points, and shift firmness.

I'm going to go and try again, just to make sure all numbers are starting from scratch, and not "load previous settings". I'll also take note of what the WOT fuel setting is at. Hopefully that may lead to something.

Just re-read your post a few more times. It's making more sense now.

I'll try what you said.

I just can't win. Followed your advice,

Chose #2 tune. Custom setting? NO
loaded it up, started it up, ran fine.

Chose #2 tune again. Custom setting? YES
tire size 2565
gear ratio 3.55
hit DONE.
Loaded up. Started fine, ran fine.

Chose #2 tune again.
Custom setting? yes
Tire size 2565
gear ratio 3.55
rev limit 5200 (I didn't change this)
Shift points 4800 4800 4600
shift firmness 10 10 8
hit DONE.

BTW, the WOT fuel was at the factory 1.2 the whole time.

Loaded up, started it up, it runs like crap again.!!
No wonder I drink. I have gone through this same process on the level 1, 2,and 3 tunes already.(many times) .It happens exactly like this on every level..

Hopefully the OP can figure something out. Maybe he will have better luck than me. I'm going to send it back and see what happens with a new one.

Thanks to all that tried to help. I really appreciate the effort.

If the recall has not been done and it still shows as outstanding for your VIN, you can and should get it done immediately.

My memory is also shot but if i remember right i messed with the wot fuel and set it to the highest and that caused the problem from then on.. I don't mess with it anymore trying to do custom tunes but i still get the bad idling and sputtering from the custom tunes.. When i put it on no custom tune on any of the levels it runs fine but as soon as i set a custom tune its a whole different truck.. So how do i get this bug fixed? I want my truck back! I want to be able to use the wot fuel settings though also

As long as you don't hit the "load previous settings" when you go into the custom settings menu, it should be set to the default setting.
Mine was 1.2 on the WOT fuel, on the level 2 tune.

I hope this is right??

I thought jackandjanet was trying to say that if you messed with the wot fuel it would create a bug on the programmer.. So i thought that might be what was wrong with mine.. I never mess with the wot fuel now when i set a custom tune but the crappy idling and black smoke keeps happening... My truck sputters out when i try to give it alot of throttle.. I honestly think if i switched to my diablo it would fix the problem but i have it programmed on my buddies truck.. I will be trying it as soon as i can get around to deprogramming my buddies truck

I talked to my ford dealership today and they are going to fix my cruise control tomorrow.. They told me to bring it in tomorrow sometime and it would only take like 5 minutes for them to fix the issue... So i'm super stoked now to finally have a free foot while i'm driving

Ever find a solution to your Edge problem??? I finally got tired of the same "we're looking into it" response from Edge and sent it back.

Thanks to Autoanything.com where I bought it, I decided to upgrade to the CS for about $40 more than the monochrome Evolution sells for. No worries about the cable issue, and if I want to I can send it out for custom tunes.

Hopefully no problems like I had with the old one.
