Throwing crazy trouble code

I have a 2002 ford f-150 2 wheel drive.. With the 4.6L

I have a edge evolution programer.. Whenever i set my tune on 3 with the custom settings i want, my truck throws a trouble code that says tps inconsistent with maf. I know what this means but what would be causing the problem? It idles high and black smoke comes out my turn down like crazy causing it to burn gas very quickly... I recently had a problem with my vaccum lines but i found the one that was causing the trouble and fixed this.. I can run my tuner on any of the programs just not with a custom tune... Which sucks because i enjoy the way my truck runs when i set it to how i want it..

Also i have another problem with my cruise control.. The light blinks but it won't set i was told that it is probably something inside my steering wheel and will need to be professionally fixed because my brake lights are still working..

All the help is very appreciated

I'll get them up tomorrow.. I tried re-updating my programmer(therefore i had to put it back to stock clearing trouble codes) to see if it would help anything but it says i have the newest version so who knows...

How long does it take to clean a tb?

Anywhere from an hour to a half a day depends how OCD you want to get with it and how many barley pops are consumed also.....

Post up the codes.....please
And
Write them down in the order in which they appear...

That helps everyone help you solve your issues quicker....

Has the cruise control recall been done? If not, get it done IMMEDIATELY.

Right! AND, if your 3rd brake light is out, I believe it kills your cruise control too.

I am going through the exact same problem with mine. Runs good on the canned 1-2-3 tunes, but as soon as I adjust the shift settings, I get black smoke, won't idle, and TPS inconsistant with MAF code.
I have been in contact with EDGE since the beginning of the year, and keep hearing the same thing. "we're looking into it". Got tired of having them look into it, and packaged it up to send back to where I got it.

Call Bill at EDGE, ext.127. Let him know you are having the same issue. Seems like they don't believe me.

I cleaned my MAF and TB with no effects.

Please post if you find a solution.

Steve

the code is p1121.. I'm having the same issue.. I bought mine a long time ago off autoanything so idk if the warranty would still be good or anything... It like sputters out when u try to floor it and it idles funny.. I hate not having the full potential out of my truck.. Does the problem fix with a new programmer? Cuz i have a diablo predator also...

What is the cruise control recall? I'll have to ask my local ford dealership about that.. My cruise control light will flash but won't set itself... Sometimes it won't even flash at all.. I'm ready to have the cruise back cuz its killing my gas mileage because i can never keep my foot steady..

You guyz have got to realize something.....

When your truck has the stock tune loaded there is a lot of give and take....

When you have a tune loaded some of the give and takes are reduced....

If the tune you have loaded isn't happy with something your truck is going to let you know sooner.....

Cleaning the items I mentioned is a must and part of general maintenance on these trucks, it makes them operate a whole lot better also....

Try replacing the TPS its around 65 at the dealer and use a motorcraft one.

Your tunes may be telling you that its going to fail.

So it has nothing to do with the custom tune it is actually our throttle position sensor wacking out?

It possibly could be....
But
Clean the TB MAF IAC first to rule out those possibilities....

Then go get a replacement TPS

There's no possible way it could be my programmer making the parts go wack?

Yes, the programmer's tune IS making your truck "go wack", but it is most likely not the fault of the tune. It is probably being caused by an interaction between the tune, which expects the underlying truck to be in perfect working condition, and a truck whose systems are sub-optimal.

If this were not the case, we would be seeing a majority of the truck owners using Edge tunes having problems. You are all using the same "canned" tune, right? That tune modifies the coding in the PCM and instructs it to "forget" all the "adaptive learning" it has gradually accumulated over the miles and to start over, thinking your truck is "factory fresh". If there are problems, the PCM simply cannot adapt quickly enough to compensate.

This statement/advice applies to ANY programmer, by the way, not just Edge. Within this forum, I've noted individuals now and then who buy a reputable programmer and have problems, while the majority using the same programmer are perfectly happy. Sometimes, changing programmers (tunes) helps (you get a different interaction characteristic with a different tune). But, I'm quite convinced that a thorough tuneup on the truck would have corrected the problem with the original programmer.
