Got my CS today. Installed all updates through fusion and am now running the level 2 tow tune while I wait on my custom tunes. I only used one of the usb ports, not sure why it pigtails into two??? WOW, what a difference. Can't wait to see how much of an improvement the custom tunes will make.

You should have connected both USB connectors. With only one connected, it's possible for the device to be underpowered or to overload the computer's USB port.

With SOME laptops (I have one) the power from the USB port is so feeble that even connecting both plugs doesn't help. With that laptop, I have to use external drives that have their own power supply.

If you use a desktop, it's probable that power is not an issue.

I used my desktop and didn't have any issues. Everything updated fine and the programer installed on my truck with no issues.

I suppose I am going to have to call PHP tomorrow. I oredered a gryphon on 1/3/11 and the ship date on the invoice was suppose to be 1/7/11. I never recieved an e-mail or anything saying it was shipped and am waiting desperatly so I can send in my HEX code for custom tunes. Plus tomorrow I have scheduled putting on all my headers, exhaust etc. hoping I could run on the tow tune. Stressing me out I tried e-mailing but think I sent it to wrong person. Hopefully I get ahold of someone tomorrow.

Well My Controller arrivd on Wednesday or Thursday, I was out of town so I did not mess with it until this weekend.
First thing call my nieve but I ordered a Gryphon controller so I was surprized to see a package that said Edge all over it. I guess I should have read more about the darn thing before jumping into to order it. There were no instruction from GPH in the box so I followed all of the instructions that came with it. I should mention that this is for a gas 1999 f150.
I installed the fusion software and updated the firmware online. Again from the Edge site not the GHP site. (ok did I screw up?). I guess if I messed up I can recover later.
I am going to install the unit in the truck later this week. So if there is a different program I should be loading let me know.

Creek, the Gryphon (in all configurations) line of programmers are made by Edge and sold by PHP. They are Evolutions that when updated with custom tunes via Edge Fusion or Pegasus software become the "official" Gryphon CS/CTS. Jack or someone may correct me on this, but that is my understanding. There is one exception and that is for the original Evolution and original Gryphon, where the product was actually recased by PHP and was dubbed the Monochrome (I guess it had to do with the color?)

As far as I can tell, you are on the right path and I hope this helps. Which model did you order? I'm assuming a CS or CTS as I see the original Gryphon is not available for that truck, Edge's Fusion was correct to use. You can download the the product manual and installation instructions from Edge if you need them.

Thanks for the reply. I will continue to move forward in this path. LOL
I am sure that what ever happens will just happen.
I ordered the CS model
My understanding is that once I send in the Hex code ID from my truck that they will send the custom tune I ordered.
Should be a piece of cake right?
My experience says that it always seems easier than it really turns out to be, but life is full of challanges. I think that I will connect the controller this afternoon and see how it worksout.

It sounds to me like you did everything correct. As long as the first thing you did was plus your CS into your computer and run an initail update through Fusion you should be set. Once you plug in your CS to your truck the first time the unit will save your stock settings, this is also when you can get your HEX code to send into PHP. I was told 3-4 weeks for custom tunes, so you should be in the same boat. Just remember once your custom tunes come in SET YOUR TRUCK BACK TO STOCK BEFORE UPDATING YOUR CS AND DOWNLOADING YOUR CUSTOM TUNES. Good luck!!!

I've only been able to run the 87 tow tune. Need to run a tank or two of 93 through before I switch to the 93 performance tune. But the 87 tow has made a huge difference. Firmer shifts, more responsive throttle and definite more low end power. Hopefully my custom tunes will be here sooner than later as everyone says the custom tunes blow the canned tunes out of the water.
