Chip ?'s

I am completely new to F-150's, been looking at 07-08 FX4's. My question is do these chips, or programmers make a huge difference? I had a 2006 Duramax and I know the diesel world is a whole different level, but would it be worth it to chip an F-150? All your help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Welcome!

Lots of good information in this forum. These will get you started.

You are correct; they will not have the same gains as the diesels, but most owners are extremely satisfied.

i just bought an SCT xcal3 and custom tunes from VMP tuning but have not received it yet. bought it for my 08 V6. with a manual, which i have, you get the same amount of extra power but more is put to the ground. but with an auto it MIGHT feel better because you can adjust the shift firmness for the feeling of it being a stronger acceleration. i am still waiting on mine tho but if it helps my V6 decent enough, i would expect more from a tuner for a 3v 4.6 or a 5.4.

You cannot compare the gains received by a programmer on a diesel to those on a gassers.
On the trucks your looking at probably an additional 35 HP on 92 octane gas 5.4 3v with some other additional mods taken into account for along with custom tunes.
The biggest difference these programmers with custom tunes makes on a gassers is the shifting. They take the Cadillac feel out of the shift and firm it up.
Programmers and custom tunes are an economical way to improve your trucks drivability.

So what I'm gathering, I will see a 2-3 mpg increase and a little bit of horsepower, if I add exhaust and intake as well? I guess my question is which one to buy? I want to make this Limited Scream! Thanks for the help guys and gals!

If you want it to scream, start with a supercharger.

It's fixed.

As to the intake and the exhaust - they won't add much and will likely do nothing under 3700 RPMs. Hard to save gas at those RPMs.

I'd do a supercharger, but how much would that set me back? and would I have to worrk about tranny problems or any other issues with a supercharger?

Depends.........
Used or New?
Anywhere from $1000-$8000 plus install labor and dyno time. The tunes that come with most s/c apps are conservative.

For the most part these trannys are pretty stable.

On a 2008?
The 2011 were just released.......

To answer your question.....yes they can if they want to.
And.....
Have the tools, equipment, and knowledge.

A person is better off finding a good indy tuning shop who is knowledgeble in superchargers and tuning them.
