Another CAI Question

I am considering removing my AF1 CAI and going with the GOTTS Mod. I am currently running custom tunes from Bill (PHP). If I do this will it make such a change that I will have to have the custom tunes redone ?? I have tried to use the 'search' area and still couldn't get an answer. Thanks to all that responds.

You're welcome! If your tunes were built for the AFI and you switch to the Gotts Mod (probably the better choice in the first place), you WILL want to have your tunes redone. Sorry! The aftermarket CAIs seem to require "detuning" in some areas to get them to work right. The overall response is better than a tune alone, I think, but it is not as good as it could be.

If you already have it on, and are tuned for it why take it off?

What to gain? You already spent money for the CAI and the tune for the CAI so why bother?

Even if you reverse it, that about $40-60 for a tune and the wait time, not worth it IMO.

Obviously, both my post and the posts above me are just opinions. Nothing wrong with the gots, but why wast money?

The biggest reason I was thinking about changing the AF1 was the cleaning and oiling of that D*M filter. I can't find a replacement anywhere that doesn't need to be oiled and a new replacement is around $60. Amsoil doesn't even have one for the AF1 and they are a 'dry' filter. I have one that's close but not quite as large as the AF1. I thought S&B had filters for the AF1, but I can't find it by size anyway.......As far as having Bill (PHP) do three more re-tunes, it's not a really big deal. Not sure just what to do right now.....

You wont have trouble unloading the AF1 here....I'd have bought it off you a few months back...hehehe

But I'm almost certain I saw a dry replacement filter for the AF1, but can't for the life of me remember where I saw it. I'll keep looking and let you know...

would a AEM dry flow filter fit off one of the AEM kits?

They might not be as high.

I bought a replacement off Troyer. S&B lets you tell them what measurements you want a filter to be made to..maybe I can take all those measurements and post them here and you can buy directly from them at a lower cost ? Granted it is an oil filter but I have 2 so while the one is on I can take my time cleaning and oiling ang then store if in a huge ziploc bag until I need to swap them out.

Um, how long does this process take you? I have the AFI and I'll pop it out when I get home from work, clean it, let it dry overnight, oil it, and pop it in the next morning.

The issue with oiled filters is possible MAF fouling.

I wait for 5-7 days after oiling mine, then clean the MAF. Never had any issues, although I could see how it would become one if you didn't take the 5 minutes to do it after oiling.

I wash my filter, then let it dry for about 30 minutes while I am doing other stuff on the truck. Then oil it lightly and put it back together. It is usually several hours before I start it to go somewhere, so has time to "dry". Never had a problem in 104,000 miles.

I know someone who isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer and doesn't bother to read instructions - he cleaned his K&N and used the WHOLE CAN of oil to reoil it........

He finally got it running right after replacing the filter, MAF, O2's, spark plugs, and cats.
