Update: Got a message back from them saying they should have my tunes to me in a week (max). I'll give them until next Friday, then it's on again!

I’m a couple months behind ya. I ordered mine on 2/11/2010. I knew it would be a long wait when I ordered the tunes.

Well I ordered mine in July of 2009.... If my math serves me right thats 11 months since we are at the end of May really and I ordered in the middle of July. I think my order went in July 17th to be exact when Glenn contacted me via email to clarify a few things in my Tune paperwork.... When I called the first time for this summer to check on my status I was told 4 weeks.... I called Glenn yesterday and was told 3 weeks MAX.... so it appears that i'm moving up the list at the rate I was recently quoted.... we shall see.

Ever stand in line for a good restaurant? Weather it was worth it or not can only be decided by you. Mike Troyer has been tuning my vehicles since 1997. I have had the chance to try others but I have always returned to him. That was my decision..

Don't talk bad about the almighty Mike Troyer. You're sure to get flamed by one of the fanbois.

11 months! Come on, no matter how good the steak and taters are, that's just not acceptable. My biggest problem is they quoted me an average turn around time of 8-10 wks. If they know they are waaaaay beyond that, why quote it and get peoples hopes up? I'm going to wait it out being I've already invested a lot of time in them and I'll probably really enjoy the product when I finally get. But like you said JMC, if you don't mind waiting I'm sure it'll be worth it.

general rule of thumb is once you make a thread complaining about it, somehow you magically get to the top of the list, and get your tunes in a week or two

customer service is #1

So what...you got like 3 tunes from him in that time frame?

sorry I had to...not saying anything about you or the tuner...every one can decide on there own who to get to tune there car and if its worth it or not. For me tho...several months is just too long no matter how great of a tuner he is. What if you get your tune and theres a slight issue...that makes it not so great to drive...or safe to drive...you have to wait another several months to get it right?

I respect the fact that for you several months is to long of a wait. By all means present your opinion as I freely presented mine. The only explanation I can forward is that other tuners do not have the volume of work that Mike has? I will not discuss who is the better tuner as I cannot because I have not compared there tunes to Mike's. At least not the ones who advertise on this board. If you look closely at my sig you will see that my truck is far from stock. It started life as a 4.6. The very first tune was custom to move the rev limiter up to 6500 rpm. Then came headers then ported TB then.... Then the 5.4 swap then the blower..... Every time I discussed the mods with my tuner. There has been more than 3 tunes. Back in 1997 I had to wait for Mike to crack the code. BTW this is before these boards even existed.

Yeah I saw the mods...impressive swap for sure and not easy for tunes. I was just messin with you. Several months is just long. I have a 06 mustang with a whipple (@12psi) headers and a bunch of other goodies...have had it tuned a few times by different tuners that im sure are quite busy tuning the gobs of other modded mustangs out there...and it has never taken several months unless there was a issue with something (other than the tune) and it was taking a lot of back and forths trying to figure things out.

Now... take it for what its worth, but when I spoke to Glenn the other day ago he said

"Yep, I remember talking to you last year, I believe I was your rep. I know that Mike has just started building the base files for your tunes, so it shouldn't be to far off now."

I asked him what was "not too far off", not that I mean to push Mike, as I know he is a busy man.

"Well, 3 weeks tops, if you don't see your tunes by then, give us a call"

So... the previous 11 months aside (and not exactly forgiven), it almost sounds like he works on tunes for the period of 2-3 weeks building them from scratch. This could be due to his having other people scheduled for dyno visits and in-person tunes, or whatever. I'd find it hard to believe that he would be concentrating on just one persons tunes, especially if you consider the price your paying... $150.00 is not 3 weeks worth of work :P, its maybe an hours cost when you consider the average per hour cost in a shop... $85.00 an hour??

Folks.

For your reference, seeing as there was some questions regarding just how-in-depth TP's tuning is.

I do not know what the others do ( whether they just use the supplied Advantage tune file templates and modify, for instance ), but the below confirms that TP does not - and this may be part of the reason for the timelines - in addition to the workload, R&D, etc, etc.

Specifically - See the third paragraph from the bottom in this here post: https://www.f150online.com/forums/1981902-post25.html

In fact, the entire thread where the above came from is a good read:

https://www.f150online.com/forums/ch...-05-5-4-a.html

You'll also note from that thread in later posts, that tuning ETA's were much shorter once upon a time - another indication that the bidness has grown, and Mike is getting older, and perhaps is taking at least a little more time for himself & family

Just throwing this out there - please don't shoot. ( Yeah Freeky - that means you )

The key is to order as soon as you buy the truck and forget about them. That way, by the time you start wanting custom tunes, they'll only be 2 months out.

So... the previous 11 months QUOTE]

Clasic case of the sales person saying something to get the sale even though it ain't going to happen.

Considering that my previous quote a week prior to that was 4 weeks.... I highly doubt that, their right on the time line from recent quotes. It may sound sort of selfish, but man am I glad a few others are also waiting 6-7 months, it confirms to me that I didn't do anything wrong when sending in my tune paperwork.
