SCT question

I have a friend who has a SCT flash tuner not sure model number yet.
He uses it on his diesel but he said he has 5 unlocks on it still and that he can use it on my 06 gas truck. Is this true do they have tunes for all the engines in one and are the sct tunes pretty safe. Are there any problems using his SCT to load a tune on my truck?

Thanks I am kind of new to the tuner things.

Hello.

No need to call anyone - I got yer answer right here ....

Everytime you use the flash programmer on a different vehicle ( i.e transfer from one VIN to the next) you use up a lock count.

When this hits Zero - the device needs to go back to SCT to get reset - for a fee.

Also - only ONE vehicle can be flashed at a time - you can't flash multiple vehicles, with different tunes, using the same programmer, without first returning the current vehilce to stock, loading the next vehicle's tuning into the device, connecting to said vehicle (VIN Locked at this point), and flashing. And so on ....

In additon, I'm a believer in the Principle of Self-Help ( a.k.a: anti-CB32-style lethargy, lol).

So - have a look here - for answers to this and any other SCT-related question:

==> http://www.sctflash.com/support/inde...gebase&_a=view

If you still don't find what you need, post up, or pester yer tuner feller of choice

OK?

Basically its a protection against you buying a tuner and flashing all of your buddies trucks for free. They want you each to buy one. Makes buisness sense but sucks for us!

it'll suck for you if you tried to load your stock tune back in and you got the one intended for your "friends" diesel

ok so it is a sct 3015 he knows about the pulling his tune first. he said he would pull his tune then let me use it for a week or 2 to see if I wanted to buy one. Then go from there.
so on to the next question is the 3015 a pretty safe tune for the 2006 f150.

I dont think you can use a tuner for a diesel truck in a gas truck too. The parameters are set different. I could be wrong but I dont think you can. When I ordered mine from 5 star tunning I had to give him a few numbers off my truck. Probably to make sure I get the right tunes. Im sure if you hook it up and try to download a tune it will probably say like error or something. But I could be wrong.

I got the SCT x3 with custom tunes for my 04 f150 with the 5.4 and its awsome. If you goto www.5startuning.com and look around on that site it should show you what is avaliable for the f150.

Hello again Alex.

Ahhh... an SF programmer. These are shipped as canned programmers, but have the capability to be converted to custom programmers using software provided by SCT, so they will accept tune files from an SCT customtuner dealer, like PHP, VMP, or TP.

Here is the 'brochure':

http://www.sctflash.com/SF3.php

http://www.sctflash.com/shop/product...products_id=40

Here are the vehicles it will support: http://www.sctflash.com/PDF/SF3.pdf

And here is the manual: http://www.sctflash.com/PDF/3000-3015%20small.pdf

I'd expect you to enjoy the tuning - it's not going to be as refined as a true custom tune, but will give you an idea.

By all means give it a try, sir.

Just have him ensure all the latest updates have been applied as posted on the SCT site for that device.

Hello. #3015 is preloaded for a number of gas & diesel trucks - see my post for the links.

This is a canned device.

Ok well I guess you learn something new everyday then. HAHA I was just thinking of when I got mine I had to give him the Hex code off my truck. Cause I think the x3 works on different vehicles too but you have to have the tunes for that vehicle. Once again could be wrong. I think I was told mine will only work for 2004-2008 F150 with the 5.4

*Edit*- I guess I was thinking it was a custom tuner.

Hi.

Yer X3 will work on any Ford with an OBDII port and has custom tunes for via a dealer. Car, truck, diesel or gas - just need the correct tune for the specific strategy, and the correct firmware version loaded.

*EDIT* - the SF tuner can be 'morphed' into a custom tuner - using SCT's utilities, if the owner so chooses. You would only need to use utilities located here: http://www.sctflash.com/tsupdates.php, and have a strategy-matched custom tune file to load.
