Tuner vs Programmer

Hey guys let me start off by letting you know that im a newb. With that said I need someone to explain to me what exactly I need. Programmer, Tuner whats the diff. I currently have a stock 05 F-150 5.4L Crewcab (with the exception of a leveling kit) but plan on spending some money on it. Ide like 33's on 20's which is quite a bit of rolling stock. I also plan on a cold air intake and an exhaust. I like the idea of having a dash-mounted unit, and my budget will be 400-600$ I drive quite a bit so I dont want it to be completely gutless and it cant kill my gas mileage (I do expect some change obviously).

Welcome aboard!

Tuners/programmers are used interchangeably, but in reality, the programmer loads a program into your truck and the tuner is the person that writes the tunes.

There's your freebie. All the other answers can be found here:

and here Best kept secret about programmers

And since it's Friday, let me offer this gem:

We should charge for this information

Good luck!

So I may be missing the point of this conversation but what is the better bet? A tuner or a programmer?

Each has their own purpose and neither is worth a damn without the other.

Again, a tuner is a person and a programmer is a piece of hardware in this context.
