CAI + EVO w/o Custome tune = ? anybody?

I have the Infamous "Gotts" intake mod with a K&N drop in filter.

But i also have a K&N FIPK sitting on the shelf in the garage. In the box.

What effects would this have with my evo?

I'm sure this is a common topic with many threads, but I gotta keep you guys on your toes right?

You will have issues using a CAI and using the Evo. on stage 3 w/ no custom tune. It will cause the engine to run "lean". I have had no problems running on stage 2. I plan on having the good folks at PHP set me up w/ custom tunes.

On a 2002 you will be fine. It does not suffer from the lean conditions of the 2004 + models. Different style MAF.

Norm is right, slayer-g, sorry!

I think if I were the OP, I'd try to sell the K&N FIPK. I seriously doubt he could get his money's worth out of it in terms of a performance increase over the "Gotts". However it might be worth it to him in "eye candy" appeal, if that is what is important.

You shouldn't have any issue with a CAI and the EVO. I have been running a first gen EEF-2000 on my Expd, with S&B CAI, and Magnaflow, with no issues. I just upgraded to a Current gen EVO, via Edge, and will be putting it in next week.

Goldie, you may not see any gain from the addition of a CAI vs the gotts mod, if you really want more air, then get a cheap ebay CAI kit, then upgrade the couplers and use a stock Lighting/harley truck air box

you have a 3 valve 5.4 don't you???? it has been advised constantly to never ever install a CAI on any 3 valve motor unless you've got the custom tune to keep it safe...

biggoldie does not have a 3 valve, he has a 2 valve motor

Thanks for the replies guys.

I might put the K&N CAI back on in the summer. but for winter, its a wiser choice to have your stock setup on. all the stuff on the roads especially this new brine stuff, makes for a dirty open face filter.

just wanted to make sure that it won't throw off my canned tune.

sounds like it won't gain or decrease and performance values of the engine

Okay...My bad. Slayer-G wrong as usual. Question for ya... Will custom tunes for my Edge take care of the problems w/ the "3-valve" 5.4 running lean w/ a CAI, or should I put the factory intake back in??? Thanking you in advance for your usual fine cooperation.
