I dont' think they were ever meant to idle that low, especially on the tunes from Edge or PHP. They would not have told us to go 700 if that was not what they thought the tunes required. You are fretting about something needlessly. If your truck is happy now, you should be too!

And I agree with Jim. The truck should not be idling in the 400s. I've NEVER seen mine drop that low for any reason. I haven't really looked at my idle speed on the Gryphon, where I'd get a digital readout, but on the dash tach it seems to be in the 600s, and it's very smooth.

Cold weather COULD drop your idle speed a bit too, since the fuel is somewhat less volatile. Bill Cohron recently stated that you could actually advance your spark a small amount in cold weather, because of the reduced tendency to burn rapidly when cold. I haven't tried this, but it's something to keep in mind if you live in the "cold country".

Yeah once I bumped it up, the truck ran much smoother. I usually seemed to be in the 500s which was low as it is. Ill keep it where it is I think for now.

I noticed an idle as low as 480 once, and complained about it. After receiving my custom tune it is not an issue, so its just possible that the canned tune idle is low, since everything is electronic. I only raised my idle 50rpms just for a slight better sounding idle.

Cleaning the TB is a very simple task too. Remove your intake, there are two electrical connectors to the TB, and four 8mm, 9mm or 10mm bolts keeping the TB bolted down, you will need a lengthy extension for the rears ones and its very simple.

Yeah It's running strong as ever now. I idle around in the mid 700s. The exhaust has a deeper growl to it. I averaged 16.4 on the last tank (tuned the entire tank) and that is on winter blend, so I am quite pleased. My truck has ***** now. I noticed that it acclerated better on the highway under 2k rpms, but it screams to go over 2k so I go about 2200-2300 now and she flies right up to speed. Around town the instant mileage reads in teh 20s-30s and I have a steady foot so it helps me a lot. Php has made a great product and I can't wait for my custom tune

You will love the custom tune. I noticed OEM tune i'm right at 2000rpm at 70mph, after getting the custom tune and proper tire size circumference i got at 1900 - 1950rpm, I still average that rpm area with the circumference of my Toyos, but that did help the highway economy greatly, to average 20.4mpg highway in a 3.73 4wd scab, I was impressed. Too bad its about 16.5mpg highway now with the Toyos.

Yeah I know... I'm pumped.

Yeah, but that's the price to play for looking bada$$! I hope if I can get the Roush 20s and do the Toyo Proxes St II's 305 50 20s, I won't lose much.

I just had my starter changed and the battery was disconnected for a few hours. Started it up at the dealer and it was idleing about 400 rpms and was bouncing up and down and still is right now 4 days later. I have 86000 on my truck, think I'm due for a throttlebody cleaning?

Maybe, but have you ever cleaned the MAF? I would do that first and see what happens, if you haven't.

nope havent cleaned it yet, I think saturday I am going to clean the maf, my air filter and my TB, I'm sure theyre all past due. Reading the above post has made it more clear to me about how the adaptive strategy will compensate for it over time then when a program is changed it will not be able to, I think this is my problem

my 04 5.4 idles normally at 520 or so. I just put my gryphon on =) and it did drop a little, sometimes dipping into the 490s. So, this is a definitely a common thing with the canned tunes.

i cannot WAIT until my custom tunes are done!!

I have the SCT advantage software, so I have access to the actual values in the PCM. Idle speed in drive is set at 525 rpm. Idle speed in neutral is 600 rpm. Idle speed adder for A/C in drive is 75 rpm, and 50 rpm in neutral. That's with an engine at operating temperature. There are other adders for start-up, ECT temperatures, etc.

Just an update, no issues since bumping the idle. I have it set in the mid 700s. When it is cold it is in the low to mid 800s.
