87 octane with Gyrphon custom Performance tune

Ordered a Gryphon with 1 custom, 87 octane Performance tune, a couple months ago. Have the gryphon already and the tune is supposed to arrive next week.

I have a question though. What's everybody's thoughts on what octane gas to use with the Gryphon? I'm wondering if I should get another custom tune with a higher octane etc..

Thoughts/Suggestions?

Thanks,
Rob

I'm very happy with the 87 performance tune that Bill made up for my truck. It works great. I'd suggest you give your custom tune a try before looking at adding others.

Just my 2 cents...

I have an 87 and a 93. The 87 is as good as the canned Level 3, better actually for shifting and downshifting. The 93 tune is a little stronger, but I seldom feel the need to use it. The 87 is great.

i have 3 tunes.....the 87 perf, 87 tow and the 93 perf.......i love the 87 perf and to get a lil bit more out of it i put 91 octane in her.....but the 87 perf is a great tune and the 93 perf does give it more power but i cant afford to put 93 octane in her every tank.......

Cool! That was the 1 thing I really didn't think much about. figured I use 87 now so I got the 87 tune. Didnt think about if there may be benifits to going higher.

Thanks for the info fellas. Keep em coming.

Lonestar, you might possibly get enough of a gas mileage increase using high octane fuel with a custom 93 octane tune to justify getting it, but it's really a bit of a hassle to change over. You have to run your tank almost dry on the 87 octane stuff, then fill up, drive home to get the old gas out of the fuel lines and then switch tunes. Then, of course you have to KEEP putting the 93 octane stuff in and if you don't, you really should change back to the 87 octane tune instead of just retarding timing. Also, you might find the 93 octane stuff might give you some hard starting issues in cold weather.

Personally, I have two tunes - both 87 octane. One is for towing. The only time I switch is if I'm going to tow, or quit towing.
